Walking out of the Banpo Park with about 175,000 other fans, I tried thinking of a few positives to take away from the tourney. I came across a few

1.) Potential. There is so much freakin' potential in this team and the youngsters that didn't make the team. Given a coach that doesn't have a love affair with chokers and bad shot takers, these youngsters could get a chance in the Asian Cup next year. LSR is a player that I love to watch and it is a shame he didn't play much.I also think that Cho Won Hee will be able to contribute a ton next season. He told in April that he wouldn't be picked because Huh didn't like him. What a douche

2.) Exposure. Making the round of 16 8 years after the semi-finals run will silence most of the critics and bring attention to the bright future that we have. With all of our players in Europe now, I think that the Asian Cup will get a lot more exposure in Europe next year, also great for our players.

3.) Better attendance in the K-League. I know that I am really going out on a limb and hoping with this one but it did wonders for baseball. I think '02 was a base for getting supporters and with this run we will see better attendances in the domestic league. I think that this is the most important one since it will help develop our young players if the teams have bigger budgets to spend.

think of it in this way

2002: many critics of our success claim that it was due to our co-hosting status that we got as far as we did (understandably so as we did not win a game let alone advance past the R16 to the semis)

2006: we silenced everyone who said we could not win on foreign soil (even put up a decent fight as we were the 17th best team of that WC)

2010: Korea scored a brace against Greece. Also had a respectable, yet lucky, draw against Nigeria. We also got out of the group stages for the first time as well.

2014: Hopefully we'll have more depth in our squad and will advance past the R16 and perhaps get into the Quarterfinals.

although we have defensive and GK issues, we got to give props to Huh Jung-Moo and the rest of our boys. they did us proud and we got a lot of exposure as a dangerous team in terms of set pieces.

Another point I'd like to make is that I think we were very good in passing the ball around--something that I thought many teams were incapable of doing. What we lacked in defense, I thought we covered decently with our attacking play. Our finishing is a different story altogether, but as for our building up play--it was very good.

It's not going to get any easier to the round of 4 like this year.....I doubt we will have a "section with teams like uruguay, usa and ghana again. instead of facing brazil etc. oh well

you never know. the world cup before that we had to get by italy, spain, germany, and brazil. and in 06 had we taken france spot we wouldve had to play spain, brazil, portugal. this time we wouldve had to play uruguay, ghana, then maybe brazil. hopefully in the future though we will not be so wary of those teams because we will have confidence in our ability.

    A variety of factors.
But the most logical being that the World Cup is actual the World Cup Finals, meaning the 32 teams that qualified, have done so beating out the competition from their respestive continents. The qualification campaign is very long and involve numerous different countries within each continent.

Another reason being that each continent have their own competitions, which run between the WC.

Other reason include, just the Olympics, making the competition every 4 years allow host countries to be adequately ready, increases prestige, Bigger draws, no break for European based players.

    same.

I think 4 years is just right, or else we'd all have really short lifespans since Korea seems to trail early 1-0 and then equalize and then give up another goal and then we just cry.

Yeah, I feel ya. 4 years is too long. But you know what? 4 years is really just about right. WC will stop being so special if it's played more frequently. Part of the reason why the Olympics is so special. Else, it'll just be like the Superbowl, World Series, or Tour de France. If you don't make it this year, eh, we'll just try again next year.

If the unequivocally sane argument the world is making for fifa to make instant replay avail to officials in game lands on the administration's deaf ears, what makes you guys think changing wc from 4 to any lesser number of years is even remotely possible? c'mon guys. c'mon.

4 years perfect. special. oh so special.

    things i'm happy about:

-that i got a chance to enjoy the greece game in ktown amongst friends and acquaintances at cafe bleu

-that i got a chance to cheer my arse off for every goal that we scored (absolutely priceless, i can't state this often enough)

-that i am still proudly wearing my very classy looking nike 2010 KNT goods with the KFA badge emblazoned on the chest and thigh :D

-that we will no longer hear the utterly stupid/vapid "foreign soil" sound bite as if port, ita, spn opponents were in any way handicapped because they were playing on foreign soil in '02 --> FU Disney
