http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/02/02/bc.eu.spt.soc.netherlands.us.ap/index.html PSV said that forward Arjen Robben, halfback Mark van Bommel, defender Wilfred Bouma, and goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus wwill be named to the Dutch squad. I only know Robben from the interest Man United, Chelsea, and some other big name teams have shown in him. I really don't know the other guys. Also says that JOB will be picked for the US team.
The Dutch already bringing some big guns. Robben and van Brommel are top-notch. The Dutch team needs a serious change, not making it WC 2002 was a disaster (even if they were in a tough group for qualifications).
Watterus is the keeper that backstopped the Dutch in the last game before the US went off to Korea. If I remember correctly he had an outstanding performance making many great saves.
I'm expecting the Dutch to bring the creme de la creme, as said, Van Bommel is a stalwart, Robben and Bouma are both world-class stars in the making and given Holland's goalkeeper shortage, Waterreus is one of the best they have - maybe the best. I hope we bring our best players also, for a great game.
it was a few weeks ago, but i read that ruud and kluivert will be on the squad... nothing is ever set in stone, but i'd like to see the best of the european-based yanks against the best dutch team that can be fielded... i think bruce hopes for nothing less... peace, and watch out for ashcroft... troy
you also may remember him from such documentaries as "MARADONA, FRIEND TO NATURE" and "HOW GOOD WOULD CLINT MATHIS BE IF HE WASN'T AMERICAN?"
I won't believe that until I hear the rally big names. Van Nistelrooy, Kluivert, Stam, Overmars, Davids, Seedorf. I highly suspect that they will use this to test young and less experienced players like Robben and Van der Vaart, hardly their creme de la creme.
van der vaart is well past any 'test phase' - besides the ORANJE are prepping for euro2004, the lineups until summer should generally be made of players who are counted on for portugal
