Guess it happened either before the game last night or today at practice. :(

    http://www.wusa.com/press_room/350794.html

She has a lumbar disc herniation and that's unfortunately nothing to screw with. The injury report is out; Misaki and Maso de Moya are questionable. Moore and Tullock are probable.

So anyone who's going to that Charge/Flyers thing tomorrow night at the FU Center maybe you can drop a note here as to how long Solo will be out.

And since the Charge sent Schillig on her way...

Now you hope Melissa doesn't get injured, too. Here's what I would do in that event.

    1. You drop Kruze from the developmental roster;
    2. You switch Maso de Moya from a reserve to a developmental;
    3. You hope that Schillig accepts your offer to come back as a reserve. She's got skillz, folks; she did save the tie in the Maryland game.

What other goalie out there is worth getting that doesn't have a team to call her own?

Erin Fahey. I can't believe she's not on a team.

You expect the injury bug to start hitting teams, it just started a little earlier than you would expect! Too bad about Solo. Hope (no pun intended) she recovers quickly!

Id expect theyd see how bad it is then call shillig back up...i still say WUSA dropping the 3 keeper mandate was dumb...you need a backup if the starter gets hurt at at all times...oh well, we just need someone who can play goal...i wouldnt be suprised to see shillig back if solo's injury is anything serious...we are talking about kirk, not gabbara here ;)

Zabala would get the call before Schillig.

The league dropping the 3 keeper mandate is not dumb, it allows freedom in forming your roster.

HOWEVER, any team that doesn't have 3 keepers on their roster, should have their skulls checked. This is what can happen - injuries come fast and there is no predicting them.

You don't want to be 2 bad plays away from starting a field player in goal.

Don't forget a keeper getting a red card.

If Moore trips Katia on a PK and gets a red, then you need an other keeper, not just injuries.

Still, I bet Zabala is at Villanova right now, or on her way.

    Guys, use your heads.

Shillig and Spinelli aren't on the reserve or developmental roster because they're local and can easily be called up for just this kind of situation. Why should the Charge "waste" a roster space when they have these two waiting in the wings. I'm sure Mark has a deal with both players regarding call ups, and I expect to see both players dressed for at least 5 games during the season.

If the choice is Schilling or Zabala really playing in a match, it's a no brainer.

    I go with Zabala.

Schilling has the mobility of a brick wall.

Now Spinelli is a different story. She can play out there on the left wing. And she's got some nice creative skills out there.

Still the fundamental question is how hurt is Solo.

I hurt my back around X-mas and for a week, I couldn't even move, then I was ok for 2 months, then once day it hit me again, and for a day, same story.

It was sciatica for me, but this back area can be too fragile.

Still if the Charge were going to San Jose, with Moore and Solo, I'd feel far better with Zabala.

FYI...Shilling was dressed and at the game on Sunday night. At least it looked exactly like her (all bundled up) and doing keeper drills with Moore.

Finally, some one who was there!!

I think we can assume Moore is healthy enough to play on Saturday.

Now if Solo is out, what's the roster move to get Schillig onto the 16 travelling squad??

Solo gets placed on some injury list??

My own belief is if Moore and Solo can't play, I'd be very uncomfortable with Schillig.

Zabala has more of a comfort level with me.

And in a league where talent is very close, injuries can be the difference between making the play-offs and not making the play-offs.

Weaknesses will get exposed by the best players on the planet.

    Schilling

How can you guys talk about Schilling like she's a garbage goalie? She obviously has skills or the Charge wouldnt have kept her around for the past year. She was a pretty good goalie at Nova and as a short term replacement isnt a bad option.

She apparently made some good saves at the end of the Maryland scrimmage from what remember reading. Give her some slack.

Its just like everyone talking that the Yankees need to go trade for Tiejada just because Jeter is injured. We cant have an all world player at every position. Lets see how things play out before we all panic. As long as Moore is healthy enough to play, we'll be OK. She is a workhorse and played just about every minute of every game last year.

And unfortunately for Carolina they begin the season with an injury to their No. 1 Keeper, Luckenbill; and have a brand new keeper, Burke, starting against Washington in the very first game of the season!

As an aside - there sure have been a lot of roster changes since the rosters were "set".

I agree with you, and not just about Schilling. Any player who is on a roster or even considered for a roster must be pretty damn good in reality, esp. when you see so many quality players who are not on rosters (and not just those who retired, etc.) We could name several teams worth of players who didn't make a roster.

I wrote I was more comfortable with Zabala than Schillig.

Last year Zabala was the 2nd keeper, and Schillig was the 3rd keeper.

This point is a bit mute unless Moore and Solo BOTH are injured.

Solo apparently has a herniated disk problem, and that can be very painful.

So, what medical treatment does she require, rest or therapy of some sort, or arghhh, surgery.

Schillig did make a nice reflex save off a header at the end of the Maryland scrimmage.

Now, if the situation emerges where Moore and Solo can't play, I said I would be uncomfortable.

WUSA is stronger this year, and getting into the play-offs will be far more difficult.

I think there will be more competition this year than last year, where the league got separated into the HAVES and thr NOT HAVES.

This year, injuries could easily be more decisive.

So for a team who's lost Iverson and Zhao, the scenario where you would be going with your 3rd choice keeper, is NOT a pleasing scenario.

I hope this clarifies what I wrote earlier.

Having had this very problem I can tell you it is quite painful, although for me prednisone did the trick. Hopefully that will be the case for Solo and the problem is not bad enough that she would require surgery.

A woman I work with has experienced the same difficulty.

In fact, she went through two surgeries.

One day, a couple years ago, we found her laying on the floor in her office in excruciating pain, unable to move.

Since we have NO idea the extent of Hope's condition, I'm looking at the worst scenario, what will happen if she misses extended time.

    Perhaps warmer weather heals all.

it seems to me that everybody's jumping a little ahead of things here. if i recall correctly, last year the charge put every player on the injured list at one point or another. the injuries were rarely serious. let's just wait and see how this one plays out.

There are rules, though about the 16, 2 and 2. Wouldn't there be some kind of adjustment of the roster needed that meant removing one or two players such as you suggested?

What exactly was Solo's injury last year in her final year at UDub?

As long as they don't train with the team or receive a salary, any team can add a player during the season with a short term contract. It may be for just one game. The roster represents who gets a salary and who trains with the team.

The speculation I've seen has, if appicable, could have Solo out for a 6 week period.

If this happens, a 2nd keeper, somehow needs to get onto the 16, which means a current 16 player needs to be removed.

    This seems to be Solo.

Not knowing the ins and outs of the injury list, what is the procedure here?

I do not think there is an injured reserve list. Otherwise Sara Whalen would not count on the Power active roster even though she is out for the year.

Zabala is with Carolina but I hear New York is willing to trade Saskia Webber back to the Charge. Is Webber a better third keeper than Schillig?

Webber's salary wouldn't fit the Charge under the cap.

I think we need a couple questions answered.

    1) how hurt is Solo and when can she be expected back.

    2) if it's the 6 week period, then Schillig would be a logical move in a back-up case.

    3) assume the worst scenario, I believe the 2nd keeper needs to be a player who can play 4 or 5 matches, and it's individual judgment if Schillig or an other keeper fits the role...

still, the other consideration is what happens to the 16 player roster now.

Who gets displaced for the possible new 2nd keeper??

Solo or a player like Misaki??

I thought New York was allowed to carry 17 because of the Whalen injury?
