Way to ruin your career Solo, looks like there's no hope for you.

At USWNT games I go to when Solo is introduced, the soccer dads go googoo-gaga over Hope Solo, clapping like trained seals at Sea World. As I said in the other thread, I hope they think whether this is a good role model for their daughter or not next time they show their over-the-top enthusiasm for the US's #1 keeper.

Of course everything is alleged until proven guilty.

Perhaps those dads are just clapping for players of a team they are a fan of, and not just exemplars of virtue or excellence. Wonder what prompt moms to clap at such moments?

As opposed to those participating in Felon Crush Friday?

    Really?

I go to a lot of USWNT games around the country (just went to the one in Tampa) and see who goes to them. I don't know how many soccer dads and moms I've talked to who have very little clue about most of the team except for the what I call "cult of personality" players like Solo, Wambach and Morgan. Usually when S0lo's name is announced it is the loudest applause and soccer dads sitting around me go nuts clapping, yelling, etc.

And presumably, since you singled out dads in your observations, that the moms sit on their hands. Or am I reading too much into this survey of what motivates people to cheer for one player over another?

Yeah, I didn't get that either. However, yesterday on Twitter, it was #FelonCrushFriday in response to that mugshot of that guy, that some people found attractive.

She's still a great role model, I mean cmon' she's Hope Solo.
Has she issued a public statement or a tweet yet?
She's got "Time" to do (whether it's behind steel bars, or community service), so that'll interfere with her soccer.
When she's back, she'll still be loved and adored by fans. Someone has to be the "Bad Girl" on the team.
One is accepted by the fans, and she falls within that quota of allowance. She provides the tough girl image.
Now if another player on the USWNT gets arrested, then we've got major problems.

Should Briana Scurry get a call up now?

Or could it be like most sports fans. People don't care about pro athletes getting arrested anymore. Look at Michael Vick one of the most vilified players in the NFL and yet just a few years later he has one of the top selling jersey's in the NFL. As a country we have pretty much excepted that our pro athletes will get arrested.

Yep, which is why Hope Solo will still be adored.
She may even get more love and appreciation from the fans, especially if she rebounds in a solid way.
There are just some people that garner a high level of tolerance from others in terms of their image.
Hope Solo is one of them.

I've seen in the workplace where some of the "loudmouths" get away with saying whatever they want in a room.
And when a more quiet person says something that is only 1/2 as vulgar, it's a "BIG DEAL".
Life is about how someone reacts versus what is "expected" of them in their personality.
Some have a higher tolerance than others, just by the way they are. Hope Solo fits that mold.

In the end, it'll almost feel as if she'll get a free pass on this from the fans, as opposed to say if Morgan Brian would have committed this crime (which would have been a much bigger shock).

I almost hesitate to ask this, but what are the odds that race was involved in the conflict? (I'm wondering if Hope may have gotten upset with relatives who saw fit to point out that her husband was funny-colored?) (I'd bet the lunch money that alcohol was involved...)

It certainly was. Which sparks the latest joke created by yours truly.

What does a "solo" person need when facing domestic violence charges?
    "hope"

Let's hope it's a big misunderstanding, and we can all laugh it off in the end.

This woman has a few screws loose.

If this was an NBA or NFL athlete, he'd be labelled a thug. His upbringing would be questioned.

Hope seems as nuts as Lindsay Lohan.
