I thought the actual physical floor was too short. Both that statement and yours can be true. The turf could be cut. And no shorter than Monterrey Tech is still way short. Wasn't the gym 162 feet? Is Sonora 200 feet or less than 200 feet in length?
The Sonora field definitely looks bigger than that joke of a field that the Kixx had at Temple University. Below are some pics of the construction of the Sonora field. Looks bigger to me. http://www.deporsona.com/futbol/se-prepara-cum-para-ser-casa-de-los-soles-de-sonora/ Masl Field Dimensions according to league rules: No more than 210' in length and no less than 150' long. No more than 100' wide and no less than 75 wide'. The recommended field is 200' long by 85' wide.
Just judging from the construction pics, the field looks more wide and longer than the field at Temple. The Kixx did have a larger field at the Spectrum. We'll have a better idea of how big the field is if GSL streams the Sonora home game vs SD this Saturday night. Below is a video of the old Kixx field at Temple University. Brings back great memories!
The Spectrum was regulation-sized (the 2004-era field was crap and held together by green duct tape), and Licouras was smaller than that. Sonora could be bigger than Licouras and still not be regulation. If Sonora is just slightly small, fair enough. If it's really small, that's really not good.
I agree, looks to be as wide as the Blast's field, but not as long. So it could be slightly smaller in length. There were 12 more photos posted yesterday on the Sonora facebook page that show the field. https://www.facebook.com/solesdesonora/
I guess that's a valid-sized arena for the "Major Arena League Soccer (MALS)" http://www.deporsona.com/futbol/hay-tecnico-en-soles-de-sonora-para-la-mals/
There is now video footage of the SD at Sonora game on the Sonora Facebook page. Field size doesn't look bad for indoor. Great crowd and they really got into the game. https://www.facebook.com/solesdesonora/
"The Suns of Sonora, who will participate in this year's Major League Soccer Arena (MALS), the best indoor soccer tournament played in the United States and Mexico". Doesn't translate well. It is a nice facility, and the floor does look wider and shorter than US/Canada hockey arenas. Good crowd for the opener, and the MALS or MLSA or whatever its called needs all the help it can get.
I have seen a couple hockey teams do this, but this is a first for indoor soccer (it's a video, but BS wouldn't let me embed it). https://www.facebook.com/abraham.castrobazua/videos/10156185658765263/
That's one hell of a presentation! Was that held for the pre-game intro or halftime? Wonder how expensive this is to do? More teams should do this if its within their budget. Hats off to Sonora so far for fielding a very good team, promoting a great home opener crowd, using a very good arena and field for indoor, and an Awesome presentation! Well done! Now this is how you start an expansion team! Hope they do well for the rest of the season, looks like they will. Thanks for sharing!
Looked like Sonora had another good/entusiastic crowd as they beat Ontario. The game did stream and I got to see the what the field looked like during a game. Was smaller than average, but it did not look bad. All their home games probably will be high scoring games. Wonder if it would be better if they played 4 on 4 and goalkeepers , since the field is smaller? Still think it is wider than Licouras, but do not know the exact dimensions. Did anyone on this board ever watch a live Kixx game at Licouras? If so, how was that experience?
That's like saying I wonder if it would have been better to have five outfielders when the old Yankee Stadium was 461 feet to center field.
When Dave Bristol managed the Cincinnati Reds, he occasionally used four outfielders against Willie McCovey, sending his third baseman out to the outfield and conceding the left side of the infield to the left-handed slugger. Once Gil Hodges, when managing the Mets, used four outfielders against right-handed-hitting Dick (then most often called "Richie") Allen. Hodges moved his second baseman out to the left field corner, and just left the hole on the second-base side of second. Aaaaanyway...
But they didn't use 11 fielders because their field was a different size as powerplay13 suggested. I still found your answer interesting as a baseball/Mets fan.
