http://palermocalcio.it/it/1617/news/comunicato-del-presidente-33999 “President Maurizio Zamparini announces that he has tendered his resignation as President of Palermo,” a statement on the Rosanero’s website reads. “Within 15 days a new President will be appointed, who will will be presented at a Press conference in Palermo. “The new President is a representative of an anglo-american fund, which is under contract to invest in the projects of Gruppo Zamparini with initial investment priorities for Palermo Calcio, namely the stadium and the training ground. “The objective of the investors is to return the club to the position the city deserves, EUROPE [sic], with a three to five year program.” This is good news. Zamparini deserves a ton of credit for what he has been able to do for this team, but a new investment group, hopefully with a bit of money to spend, should help this team out massively, and at very least, avoid a long spell in Serie B.
The new president of Palermo. He's a former tv/radio personality apparently, raised in America to an American dad and Italian mother. I don't yet know what to make of this. Would be more interesting to know who the money is behind him. Some rumors that maybe Cascio is involved again after his original bid was rejected, as well as Martin Taylor, a former president of Barclays.
Baccaglini almost certainly the first manager to bear his chest at his introductory press conference....He got a Palermo tattoo last night to celebrate his purchase.
Listened to him last night on the domeninca sportiva. He speaks Italian very well and couldn't detect a Sicilian or American accent....
April 30th was supposed to be the deadline for the closing on the sale. It's apparently likely to now happen monday or tuesday instead (may 1 or 2). Not a major delay, but it won't exactly put people at ease who have had some skepticism about where the money behind this group is going to come from.
