Nobby Solano is close to joining Aston Villa, after Newcastle agreed a fee of around £1.5-£2m. From Solanos` official website:

    "New challenge - 29/01/2004

A transfer to Aston Villa signals a new start and a new challenge. I would like to thank the manager for bringing me to the club and giving me the opportunity to get back into action. I would also like to thank the Newcastle fans for their support all this time. They have been fantastic, not only when things went well, but also when we were facing difficulties. Their support was always appreciated! Unfortunately the lack of first-team football at Newcastle left me with no other choice, but to continue my career with a different club. "

I just hope it goes through and he`s playing for us against Leicster on Saturday.

Well for one he is allready a proven player in England. You also have to assuame that Solano is allready adjusted to life in England.

I can`t answer that since I`ve never seen Grisales play, but Solano is real quality. An excellent crosser, corner taker, free kick specialist, he reads the game well and scores his share of goals. Having played 200+ Premiership games for Newcastle he`s proven and settled in this country. I`m supprised We got him for £1.5m. We had a very skillfull midfield player called Paul Merson who we let go a couple of years ago and didn`t replace, now we have.
Also, Grisales said Villa had some of the worst players he`d ever seen, so maybe it was better we didn`t sign him after all.

He wouldn't have said that if you would have gotten signed.

That was pretty stupid for Newcastle to give away one of their best offensive player for only 1.5 million. Not smart at all.

True, he wouldn`t have said it, but he would have been thinking it, and that wouldn`t have been too good.

1 - Solano is good, and he has over Grisales the fact he has been in the EPL, Villa got a good player in him

2 - I like Villa, but lets face it, they are not top of the EPL, they have some good players, and some quality players, they also have so-so players...every team has them, I don't think Villa is gonna die cause Grisales said that....it was either Grisales or Solano, they chose Solano...

It`ll be interesting to see if Vassell scores on Saturday. He`s our main striker yet rarely scores, He`s missed Mersons` creativity more than anyone. Solano is only behind Beckham and Giggs in the EPL assists league of the last 10 years and if he makes a goal for Vassell on Saturday, it could be the start of something good. When Angel comes back he`ll benefit too.
BTW, I`m not worried about Grisales critisizing Villa. I wrote in a different thread I thought we were only using him to get Newcastle to drop their asking price for Solano. He`s allowed a parting shot if he feels hard done by.

RobB, one of the best days for me as a Villain!!
He's class. I have to say I was a bit dissapointed with the Grisales deal, but Solano is class. I can just see his crosses targeting JPA's head every freakin' time. Can't wait until JPA gets back in time to blow his wad on the blues! ---Villa, VILLA, VILLA

I`ve just been on the BBC 606 site, a message board (http://www.bbc.co.uk/606/). The page for Newcastle fans makes for interesting reading. Thread after Thread of fans really unhappy at Solano leaving. Nobby isn`t a miracle worker but if Newcastles` fans are anything to go by it could be a very good signing. JP will enjoy his crossing ability.

    Another Player for Villa

I heard that Villa was looking for another player from Columbia (I think, same country as JPA is all I know). Wondering if that is the grisales guy that turned down the opportunity to play at villa?

solano has over 200 games in EPL

solano is Healthier and more 'durable' than shoulder Grisales.

sorry.... but, grisales made some headlines and should be happy to sign for some one, let him show waht he got in copa Libertadores (a dream if He stayed in atl Nacional)

Grisales is class as well. One of the top 5 players from the recent generation of Colombian footballers. Bad management/agents have kept him from being a true international star! He needs to leave Nacional, and go to at least a Libertadores contender for this year...in River Plate he would fill some huge holes!

At Nacional needs major help. Unfortunately Grisales can't do it all for them. For such a 'premier' Colombian club with so many supporters, they are a true dissapointment--underachievers.

We'll never die, we'll never die!
We'll never die, we'll never die!
We'll never die, we'll never die!
We'll keep the Villa flag, flying high
and Aston Villa will never die!

    Leicester 0 Aston Villa 5, Vassell(2),Crouch(2),Dublin.

See, we sign a creative midfielder and look what happens, we win big. OK, Solano ONLY created one goal but he gave us better balance and inspired us. Already a crowd favourite, the Villa fans chanting his name most of the second half. I`m sure he`ll score against Leeds at Villa Park next week, he may even draw an extra 2-3000 fans to the game.

It was an away game so I wasn`t there. Listening to radio reports it sounded as though he played well. One radio report when the match was in progress said something like: `Villa fans are applauding Solano`s every touch of the ball, and rightly so, he`s at the heart of everything good about Villa at the moment`. Another report I read gave him 7 out of 10, where the lowest Villa player rating was a 6 and the highest 8. Overall a very solid debut. Our away form is so bad (that`s only our third win in 31 away games in the EPL) that to win 5-0 is an amazing result.

good for Solano, he is what Villa needed, will bring life back to that midfield, they looked dead most games...

Isn't Hadji leaving? or wanting to leave? he dosn't want to play for Villa so what would he be in the starting line up....?#!???

If he plays one ,one game for us we have to pay Coventry City £500k. He`s also our highest paid player earning £1.75m a year and the chairman wants him off the wage bill. The problem is he won`t leave. It looks as though we may spend £1.75m on a player who doesn`t play a single game, instead of £2.25m on a player who plays every match. It`s this kind of logic that holds Villa back and why our chairman is so unpopular. Hadji is our most skillfull player, although he doesn`t read the game aswell as Solano.
