From soccer.com Campbell needs three more weeks London, England (Sports Network) - Arsenal defender Sol Campbell will be out another three weeks as he is struggling to recover from an Achilles injury. The English international already missed Arsenal's disappointing draws against Southampton in league action and Panathinaikos in Champions League play. He was forced to miss six weeks following EURO 2004 with a similar injury. "It is the sheath of his Achilles. We feel he needs five or six days rest, one week training and maybe the week after he can play again," said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. "It is not the same as before, then it was some fibres of his tendon which were touched." Campbell, 30, is hopeful he can return for the Gunners' vital Champions League encounter with group leaders PSV Eindhoven on November 24. "We would like to have him back but I feel that we had to deal with that at the beginning of the season when we were playing well," said Wenger. "If he doesn't play, he doesn't play, it does not mean we do not win our games. I still feel we can win our games." Arsenal, which is winless in its last three matches, will attempt to right the ship Saturday at Crystal Palace.
Is it finally time for senderos to play? I get nervous everytime cygan touches the ball or even when the ball goes near him. Hopefully Campbell can recover fully and be back to face psv
I think it is still up in the air. Hopefully, now that he has some time off while recovering, he can get it sorted.
What's the deal on his contract? I haven't been checking other pages, but I hope there will be some sort of news soon.
This is way more important with him out injured at the moment at least we no he is coming back which is some relief although with Pascal Cygan in defence it still makes me nervous. If Campbell leaves in the summer Arsenal will nedd to get a better replacement straight away otherwise r chance 4 champions league or premiership glory will go forever and not only that what about Edu's contract looks like he's more than gone shame we need backup in that area. Here's an article from soccernet about Sol's contract. I don't think he's officially anounced it yet, but Wenger says he's going to be back. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=315714&cc=5901
I read this too. It seems to be reason for optimism in light of Wenger's confidence. It's certainly a contrast from this summer when he was mostly mum on Patrick's status.
I think Sol will sign a new contract soon. Wenger knows what he's talking about and doesn't speculate about things like this. I am very relieved by this news. Sol is our best defensive player, and although he is getting older and more injury prone, when he plays he raises the level of all those around and is really playing better than ever. If he were to leave there is obvious replacement for him, there's not a single player in England that compares, except Ferdinand perhaps. I tried to think of an foreign player that could replace him and couldn't come up with a single name that wasn't already playing for a top side. Wenger knows how much he needs Sol and will not let him go easily. It is important that Arsenal hold on to its England stars, especially in defense, as they are truly the heart of the team and are what make Arsenal an English side.
Great news. Sol will sign for another 3-4 years! I've never heard wenger say anything like this before! "Listen, I bet you any amount you want that Sol Campbell will play at Arsenal next season" http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/3990885.stm
I hope so, but Im not sure about this....... The media in this country does not, how can I say it, have a good track record of telling the truth when it comes to quotes........
I saw on Sky Sports that the Sun was reported Sol was going to leave on a free at the end of the year. I need to go to England and become a journalist. I can make up some great stories. Or just put a bunch of ideas on a dart board, throw the darts, and write my story based on how they land.
Damn it! Well...at least we'll have him back for Chelski. Better to have him sit out for these upcoming matches than to have him rest it later and for Pascal to start in his place...
did not know that. it was when they showed the sports pages at the end of the show and the Sun's lead story and pic where about Sol leaving, which was odd because Santini had just resigned
This could be Wenger's way of applying just a wee bit of pressure on Sol to get the thing done, post haste.
