thanks for the dedication. but on behalf of all spurs fans, i must tell you that articles in which sol says "i'm staying...and i'll sign a contract to that effect later" don't really make that big an impression on us.

the most interesting thing about the article to me is the assertion that he'll be on reduced wages. if they are significantly reduced, and he signs, this will reflect very nicely on your boys upstairs - and maybe even on sol, himself, to a degree, who's image, in my eyes, believe it or not, has some room for improvement.

i said i'd congratulate you lot when you sign him, and i will - when you sign him.

Okay...good point, pookie (anyone else thinkin' of Chris Rock from New Jack Hustlers? I hope that's not the inspiration for your name);)

However, at least he wants to resign with us, the real North London team (and the only North London team winning any kind of silverware).

nope. never seen it. 'pook' is just a nickname from the old college baseball days.

well, at least he says he wants to resign with you. that, by the way, is exactly what he said he wanted to do with spurs before moving on. which is kind of the whole point.

as i've said before, i'm sure he'll sign; and i wouldn't come here to gloat if he didn't. but i just don't get this kind of article. campbell set to sign new arsenal deal could just as easily be titled no change in campbell's contract status. there's nothing in it.

As much as it pains me to disagree with you, in defense of a spurs fan no less, I feel I must.

If memory serves correctly I think he gave Spurs the same speil right before he signed with us a few years back.

We moved from South London what, a century ago now?. We are undenyable a north london club. We been here a hell of a lot longer than we were there so you know...however to call us the "real" north london club over the team that was here first is just gonna open a whole can of worms that you really dont wanna be arguing against

...best just to stick with the silverware jibe eh - no way he can contest that :)

"I'll do what I want, GOSH!!!" Napoleon

Just kidding! No harm/insults meant. Just good-natured pot stirring (which I guess was not called for....)

Yes, saying he'll sign and actually signing are two different stories. I will say that if Sol retracts and doesn't sign, then there will be one unhappy Liger on Bigsoccer;)

i think he had a script on hand to look at
    Victory 2
Ice Cube, Sol Campbell, Nobby Solano...and Michael Caine returning as player/coach but quits midway thru the season because he falls for his best friend's daughter in brazil...

pookie from new jack city? i almost spilled my beer when i read that...

So let's settle for "The pride of north London", eh? That should settle it.

spurs aren't exactly hurting for support, my friend. and there's enough in the trophy case to insure that it remains 'proud' in perpetuity.

admittedly, dave m's pretty much nailed it. why go down these roads when all you've got to do is point to the table?

I'll have to back up my esteemed colleague and fan of the wrong team, pookspur, here. Until the ink is dry, all articles about Sol Campbell are "pferdscheisse". This is neither the sport nor the mercenary sportsman about whom we can be certain of any loyalty whatsoever. Sol is a hired thug, akin to virtually any American baseball player from the 90s. I only hope that the hired thug fulfills his contract, and I don't worry about the rest.

Thank The Lord that we resigned Sol. Not only is he a beast on defense, but he gets the occassional VERY important goal.

Actually, no one was more happy than I to see Ken Griffey Jr. go rot in Cincy. Funny how after he left, we went to the playoffs. And after Alex Rodriguez' fevered ego left--wow, we reached the major league record for wins in a season. Coincidence? I think not.

I am far from naive about free agency, and far from naive about Sol Campbell's allegiances. He's a sports star, and like any other sports star (unless you can name me an exception) is in it for the money. The rest of the reasons one star might stay is simply a bonus to the fans.

Is this correct? I thought there were still "i's" to be dotted and "t's" to be crossed?
