Bummer, even after the W. Ham mess I hoped he would come back for another. Always liked Sol.

Oh well, probably better off for us in the long and short run.

Not sad to see him go but CB is starting to look like a potential problem for us.

Looks like we need cover now, perhaps the Thuram rumor has legs?

Sorry to see him go. Central defense immediately become our biggest question. Senderos has done well, but there's no obvious quality backup for him. Cygan is better than the press he gets, but is still a pretty big drop in mobility and in aerial presence. If we lost Toure' and Senderos at the same time, we would have big problems.

He will always be a legend in my mind. But at his age and wage, it was time to move on. This definately means Wenger will address the CB need now, although I'm confident in Djourou.

this leaves us with only 1 central defender with any real quality, Djourou. we know need to make it a priority to get a new CB in, and ppllllleeeeaaasee not thuram.

I think it was time for Sol to go; he's getting older and losing mobility and the West Ham incident only accelerated his departure.
Are we still linked with Curtis Davies or is that deal dead?

Wow. Hate to see Sol leave, now that it's finally official. The English contingent on Arsenal is slowly bleeding out, but maybe Theo Walcott will begin a new tradition of English excellence at AFC.

Good luck, Sol. I don't see how playing in Turkey could possibly be better than the Arsenal.

This is a horrendous mistake. Big Phil is not yet an every match player and we have no cover. Three centerbacks are a must and who the hell are we gonna replace him with.

Sol is the best England player of his generation. Keown had much to offer in the way of experience until he was 35. You may not be able to build a defense around Sol any longer, but you certainly are poorer without his experience in the squad.

Unfortunately you're also poorer paying his massive wage to have him sit on the bench. Its a money issue, Arsenal gets out of the remaining years of Sol's contract. Sol get the freedom to go where he wants for the remainder of his career. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, i'll be suprised if he stays in England. I won't be suprised if he just retires.

I disagree that it's a horrendous mistake. Yes, even though you seem to be forgetting Djourou, we do need to look for some cover now. But I think few would argue against the fact that Sol was on the downward slide and was only going to be cover anyway.

But now we need to look for cover at the CB position, so it's kind of a mistake. Not horrendous, obviously, but still inconvenient. It's not like we have a ton of people at CB and Sol's leaving will make room for them.

As I think that we should be looking for cover other than Sol anyway....I disagree that it's a mistake.
