There was an article about that on ussocceruk.com too. I guess it would be cool for him to come to MLS, but it's annoying how all the old euros come to retire here.

Sounds like a bad situation to me. He wants to be in New York more than he wants to play in MLS. If he's truly interested, MLS should get him on loan for part of the season so he can see early what the competition is like. Then, if he chooses to come back, he'll be better prepared.

    Midwest, the real one.
Or they can offer him a developmental contract, at the most.

Well, I guess it's good that he wants to play in MLS and work on his own acting career. This is different from another English international who wants to spent his declinng years in the MLS and give his former popstar wife a chance to resurrect her career. Is there anybody in MLS still interested in former EPL stars without much left in their legs? Oh, that's right--the Rapids will take them.

I think Sol is being a bit naive if he assumes a MLS team will want him in 7-8 years, by then he may not have the skills to play in a ever improving league, also what manager will want to sign a guy who studies his script instead of his match film...come on Sol, if you want to come, come to play and be ready to compete for a spot.. because by then,(8 years), it will not be handed to you.

Well, that should go a long ways towards cleaning up the league... ;)

He actually raised broached the idea some time ago in the U.K. press, and to be honest, he's really fooling himself. MLS is long since past the point of being a retirement league...

... fellow Englishman Chris Woods found that out the hard way several years ago.

alot of players have been saying they want to come to MLS at the end of their career. beckham says it in his book, giggs said it during the summer tour. i won't get excited cause they all have a few years left and probably won't come when it comes down to it.

we don't need any aspiring actors anyway, we need professional actors who could dive and get us some penalties.

I dont care why a player like Beckham comes to MLS as long as he comes, & plays well. Plus, these guys better not expect more than the average wage for MLS players. Overpaying foreign players was what did the NASL in.

A bit more dubious about his acting to be honest. He's a very good defender and Spurs fans still miss the bastard for going over to the Arseholes. He's also huge and I doubt he'll be past it in seven years.

Stop being Yankosnobs. And don't pretend that you don't still rely on 40 year olds.

If he's still bringing it, why not? But MLS shouldn't be doing any favors based on past reputation. As a defender though, there's a good chance, if he keeps himself in good shape, that he could still be a standout defender.

But at least Woods got a game or two, unlike another player with a Premiership tenure, Daniel Amokachi.

Amokachi under-estimated the level of play in MLS, IIRC, and didn't even make it out of preseason camp.
