Considering fascism can only be defeated with violence, how about we worry about the podcasting fascists running the government and then I can sit you down in your retirement home and explain why you're wrong until your nap time?

Instead of being an ageist "moran" tell us more about how you see fascism being defeated.

I still believe fascism will be defeated at the ballot box, if we're going to stop it at all.

But that's going to take an impressive, overwhelming display of party unity by the Democrats. :cautious:

Same way it's always been defeated: through force. Trump or one of his future goons will do something really stupid and a true believer (ie Miller types) is going to respond the only way a fascist can. Like all modern civil wars, it won't be battlefields but sectarian. Dozens of groups vying for power against the government. Eventually they'll lose (they always do). It's just a question of how many.

You might be watching too much sci-fi. Take where I live for instance, I think the response to fascism here has been exactly right, put on an inflatable chicken suit and start twerking. And, when the time comes...vote.

That's about it. Democrats are going to have make their voices heard on election day. There won't be any force involved. Democrats are a peaceful people who will avoid violence, typically.

And, if we can't get our political shit together, eventually Democracy will go away, and the youth of America will face far greater challenges as they adjust to the fascist status quo.

Just looking at what's happened with other countries recently and the past broadly. The chicken suit tactics work for the current podcasting fascists who care more for owning than being true believers. You think Kash Patel believes the same way Stephen Miller does?

    Pam Bondi?

    Please.

As the released texts show a lot of the younger, lower leadership are true believers. Because that's all they've known and been fed bull**** their whole lives. As bad as you think the current group is, people like Miller and the nut jobs a decade out are 1000x worse. Frog suits won't work on them.

They'll just respond with more aggression.

As for Dems not being violent, that's the neoliberalism talking.

So exactly what I said originally. Right.

You don't have to convince me about the evil of Stephen Miller and his ilk. I still believe that the most powerful weapon in our arsenal for defeating these people is our vote.

Miller, and fascists generally, don't respond to votes.

Miller and the fascists were voted out in 2020. Yes, democracy had to fend off an insurrection, a shitload of lies, boatloads of interference, etc., but they were gone.

Democracy prevailed, but we were as close as we've ever come to losing it. Now they're back with a vengeance, and it's worse than I'd even imagined.

So, the way I see it, we have another election or two to get it right before Democracy as we've known it collapses and fascism prevails. This will depend entirely on the Democrats in this country coming together in a way we've never seen...I'm talking about a rally that makes "Yes we can!!" look like child's play.

Unfortunately, the left in this country is taking this opportunity to embrace socialism which will ultimately only make the path easier, for the fascists. And it's the younger generations who will pay the price for their failure to understand what this moment in history calls for.

Democracy was not saved in 2020. Clearly. Because institutionalists like Biden can't fathom the threat they face. Besides the threat of physical violence, fascists are riffing the game to make voting no longer an option. Something they've been doing slowly over the decades but supercharged lately.

Losing elections will only have them respond with more sedition or violence.

Unless you think the likes of Kamala or Newsome are really going to cut out the cancer. Can you see Kamala leading the charge against the rot of American fascism? Rounding up judges, lawyers, government officials, who have all broken so many laws?

That she could (or would) bring corporations and the wealthy to heel?

    Please.

NYC is to the left of the country. I will be interested how Mamdani will do. I'm not scared of a mean social media post from Trump.

Granted, it's hard to imagine a project 2025 OTL, and Biden and his justice dept utterly failed us, but yeah, I could see Kamala kicking a little fascist ass and doing her part to preserve Democracy for future generations.

We still don't know who this next great leader will be (maybe Newsom but can he really generate the groundswell we're going to need?), and it's hard to see how the left in this country comes together to defeat the fascists, but we've still got a year to figure it out.

The same Kamala that disappeared for 6 months only to come back to sell a book? That's who you thought could kick some butt?

    Right.

I’ve noticed! I’ve been on the Newsom bandwagon for some time now. I’d say he’s our best bet but it’s not at all clear that he can unite the Dems with our socialist flank. Might be too much of an establishment guy for our young radicals.

My theory about the left flank isn't that they are policy diehards. It's that they are fighter diehards. It's just that, in the party right now, the "fighters" all tend to be lefties. With one big exception: Newsom. So, Newsom may not want everything the lefties want as policy. But he'll punch Trump in the proverbial nose. And (importantly) he'll also harshly berate the supine Dem establishment. Those things are more important to the activist left than policy purity.

Or I might be wrong. In which case, I'll see you in The Doom Thread!

I don't want a Neoliberal Trump. That's exactly the concession that the Oligarchs are going to angle for post-Trump. I fully believe that Trump will be out of office by or right after Midterms. These files are going to do him in, they won't be stopped. It took Watergate a minute before it forced out Nixon, and he's living on borrowed time. JD can't drive this train. So they will pivot to trying to co-opt people on the left. And to be honest? It's probably going to work. Oligarchs are in firm control of all of the social media in this country as well as the news sources.

Are you suggesting that Newsom is a "Neoliberal Trump"?

How you answer this question will determine whether I put you on my ignore list.

I don't think anybody that we are talking about is going to be the answer. What I meant by Neoliberal Trump was someone that is going to ball for them. He's not going to appeal to the right, but the left. And he will be popular with them. And some small concessions will be given that might feel like wins, but are a slight return to the status quo. But nothing large will change.

Boomers need to get out of the electorate two elections ago.
