not to be a contrarian, but do you think sochaux is doing this to convince potential loan suitors that Davies is worth taking a shot on?

My question: is Bob Bradley watching?

Gooch gets minutes without making the bench...Is it safe to assume Davies is in contention for a spot at camp cupcake?

I am sure he knows about it. But just because one player gets national team minutes without playing for his club does not mean it will be the same for another player.

Davies trying to come back from something far more serious and uncertain.

There's no hurry to get him back into the national team fold. Let's see how he's doing first. He still hasn't played a first team game in 14 months.

I hope it works out for Davies, but I will remain skeptical that he will return to his preinjury form until I actually see it for an extended period of time.

Every other freaking USA thread is obsessed with bashing Robbie Findley. Can we try to keep that off a yanks abroad thread about a different player?

The only Christmas present I need is a reliable television feed/stream for tomorrow's match...

Charlie is apparently a mini-celebrity in French football despite not playing (every story about him lands on the front-pages, it seems) so expect a Beckham-cam like experience...

Its a home game, as well. The Sochaux fans are planning something epic for tomorrow according to their message-boards.

Great positive step. I kinda feel its a coach's move to get more confidence into Charlie. Isnt this the team he scored twice against in his first home game. Hopefully he will get minutes.

Davies is a bit different, because he brings something that the US Soccer program can't really replicate (assuming he eventually comes back with the same kind of game). You have to go down all the way to Teal Bunbury to find the closest Charlie Davies in the system, and he's not close to being ready yet. If Chuck shows that pace and that single minded drive for goal, I'd imagine he'd be back in the National Team picture very quickly.

I still feel like a Davies was the difference between us scraping out a group win and falling to Ghana, and coasting through our group and a semi-final date with the Dutch.

Same here, I said this right after the game against El Salvador in SLC.

It's a shame. Hopefully Charlie can get more and more minutes in the coming months to get his match fitness back, and just get used to playing at a high level again.

    Excited for this game.

Here's the clip of his last match against Bordeaux, which was his 2nd match in Ligue 1:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ntsV6hRMmI"]YouTube - Charlie Davies Goals - FC Sochaux vs Bordeaux - Yanks Abroad - 2009 - HD[/ame]

As the announcer said, Davies really did seem like he was going to be one of the stars of Ligue 1 last season. Even in his goal drought after this match he was playing well.

Also, I don't think Bob Bradley has taken a scouting/schmoozing European tour so far this season, so I bet he takes one in January or February. A stop wherever Davies is playing at that time will surely be at the top of the itinerary.

Oh no doubt! We had no freaking front line, and yet we still managed to get to the round of 16. I think we would have beaten Ghana and Uruguay. Keep in mind that Uruguay was without Suarez when it played the Netherlands 3-2, and Ghana really outplayed Uruguay when they were at full strength. I feel a semifinal appearance was very possible with Davies. Even a final was possible.

Note that the presence of Davies would have given Donovan and Dempsey more options, as well as taken a lot of pressure off of Altidore. He was probably worth 3 goals at minimum.

Right before the accident, Charlie Davies was one of the best strikers we ever had on the national team. He literally exploded onto the scene...He caught my eye during the Confederations Cup and before I knew it he was scoring at the Azteca and making Altidore, our once dominant young striker, his meager sidekick.

No one really knows what Davies's form was like during the WC, however, so I wouldn't even really bring it up. No use in doing so, really.

    Actually, he didn't "literally" explode.

Those were 2 very well taken goals. Man I remember when he scored those, everyone was talking about him. I personally thought he would score at least 10 goals for Sochaux last season.

Though I have to add, had we had him injury-free for the WC, I doubt if he would have scored 3 goals but I bet he would have created 3 all on his own. I think we'd have beaten England for sure.
