    What is the overall popularity in the world for soccer (football)?
    And are there any viable resources stating these statisitcs?
    Just need some help for discussion purposes...

    ...but since you ask it is the most popular/recognised team sport in the world, with its popularity peaking in South America & Europe where it literally is embedded in the culture.
