I assume most of you are aware of the "team capsule previews" that ESPN put up on Soccernet.com. I didn't see any threads started about it, so I thought I would throw one out for comments. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=262650&cc=5901 They don't slight DC United too much - basically copping out by saying that there were too many new faces to be certain about how the team would turn out. When they did point to some specifics, one of their points was: I would certainly have had concerns about Convey at the midway point last season. But at this point? After how well he played at the end of the season and his emergence in the National Team setup, I would think he is one of the "can't miss" players for our team this season. There are virtually no challengers to his position. In fact, in many people's minds it is only a question of how well El Diablo plays before we see Bobby more or less running the team. His improved physique and form, his confidence and his motivation (thank Bruce Arena for a lot of the last two categories) as well as his presence as a "veteran" of the team make him a "Most Improved Player" prospect more than a question mark in my book. If you want to talk about sputtering development - that would unfortunately have to include Santino if you asked me. Granted he had a rough year for a number of reasons - death of teammate, injuries and family/personal issues. But his progress has arguably been negative at the club and national team levels.
ahh, they were right about a few things though.. including they line about wanting to finish anywhere but last.
I think we need to just but El Diablo, mullet and all, out to pasture and hand the team over to Convey. I know this has been covered multiple times, but its just time.
