That’s right: plus a semifinal-final leading up to the championship. The final four played eight matches.

A Zaire by any other name would still be The Congo, is what I would post if I were Willie Shakespeare.

I watched a handful of the Puskas and…I think the women’s aware is named after Marta. So I watched about 4 of each.

Ovalle’s goal in the Mexican women’s league is the best finish. Cagliari’s goal is the best play. The Seattle goal fits in between..not the best finish but close, and not th best play, but close.

There should be separate awards for shot or finish of the year, and then goal of the year. Rice’s free kick is impossible to compare to the Cagliari goal.

Yeah, obviously I'm biased. But free kicks should be a separate award.

Correct. Lots of supporters of the women's game say that award for females should be named after a female.

Absolutely brilliant. Lots of comments I've seen say it is the best. Of course, several are also saying that Marta's goal should win it because the award is named after her.

Men or women? Because Bugg of Seattle is nominated for the women's award. And I haven't seen the men's nominees.

I would say team goal and individual goal. Not sure if that is what you meant or not.

I am rooting for them and Surinam.

Cuz it's Facebook I can't post a video but apparently Panama fans were blasting music outside the Suriname players hotel to keep them awake so the players came out and started dancing and enjoying themselves.

@feyenoordsoccerfan I assume the majority of the Suriname players play professionally in Holland were born and raised in holland. So are Dutch fans going to make them their second team?

    1. “Oochamagooch, all creatures great and small!”
    2. Yes, that’s another way of making the same distinction.

  10. Dunno, but I don't think so. I actually never hear anything from Dutch rooting for a second team, except maybe for the Belgians.

Parrott will never have to buy a drink again. 2 against Pawchickle & hat trick vs Magyars with this tap in the last minute of injury time. Absolute insanity

Mexico played a friendly in Mexico. The fans were unhappy at the coach’s choice at keeper, so the fans chanted “********” at him.

I think I had read that the P word is only chanted in the US, that they don’t do it in Mexico. If my memory is correct, those posts were not.

@Val, you see Duke women basketball lose to a team forced to only have 5 players the whole second half?

    Wild, huh?

There was a men's team five or six years back that got down to four available players, and they won. Like the soccer team that has a player ejected and still win just because everyone remaining has to play harder.

It's going to be a down year in ACC women's basketball. Too much talent left that wasn't replaced. Olivia Miles left Notre Dame to got to TCU. Ta'Niya Latson decamped from FSU to South Carolina. Oluchi Okananwa left Duke to go to Maryland. Dani Carnegie, ACC Freshman of the Year, moved across state from Georgia Tech to Georgia. We're two years away from the Liz Kitley - Georgia Amoore golden generation at Virginia Tech. Wes Moore (NC State) hasn't had a great recruiting class in two years. Its gonna kind of suck.

Great match from start to finish!

UEFA's job in the next couple of years is to come up with a better qualifying format for 2030. Its just so unbalanced that some teams now have to go win 2 away games simply for not having a good enough FIFA ranking and for not finishing above a Portugal, Spain or France while others randomly get to play 2 home games.

From watching some Liga MX on TV, my experience is that I hear them do it (or did until recently) in the league matches. Not for the NT, or at least not as much as in the US matches. A fan from Mexico might have a more accurate response.

so, for e.g., Ireland and Italy both achieved the same thing in qualifying - finished in 2nd. But, for the upcoming playoffs, Italy will get at least one home game, maybe 2. While the 2nd-place teams with lower FIFA rankings will need to win 2 away games to qualify.

It always confuses me when somebody, somewhere makes the comment that Maryland is not in the ACC.

Four against five is tougher. It's like being two players down in soccer.
