The most famous Throneberry story involved his fielding and base running miscues in the first game of a double header against the Chicago Cubs on June 17, 1962. In the top of the first inning, Throneberry botched a rundown play when he blocked a runner trying to get back to first base and was called for obstruction resulting in the runner being safe. Then, in the bottom of the inning with the Mets already trailing 4-1, Throneberry appeared to make up for the botched play when he hit a triple driving in two runs, only to be called out on an appeal play because he missed first base. As the story goes, Stengel came out to argue the call but was told by the umpire “Don’t bother, Casey, he missed second base too.” In a fitting end to the game, the Mets were trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth with the tying run at first when Throneberry came to bat with a chance to tie or win the game. He struck out.

When Big Ben and Eli get in. Ben's not first ballot, but he's going, IMO.

No QB with two SB rings as a starter but Plunkett has had to wait for the Vets Committee or whatever they're calling it.

Him being beaten within an inch of his life, while his grandchildren watch would be good for America, based on general principle....

    Yawn. 121 or 128 OPS+ as 1st basemen?

Both are "Hall of Kinda-Sorta Good."

It took seven minutes for Sounders to post the appropriate Simpson video.

I’m guessing his wife is a little dodgy at the moment.

If I had a wife it would definitely be more than a little dodgy, it would be very dodgy!

For those looking forward to the expanded World Cup, the U-17 World Cup happening now is also expanded to 48 teams. In today's action Morocco beat New Caledonia 16-0. To be fair, NC had a red card in the 22nd minute (they were down 3-0 at the time) and another in the 31st minute (still down 3-0).

I’ve looked forward to our next World Cup for years, and now it’s gonna completely suck.

    1. The dynamic pricing means my dreams of going to a handful of matches is dead.
    2. The 48 team Cup is going to have a terrible group stage because of the talent disparity. Too many stories going in at once, plus, the blowouts.

Infantino and Trump have ruined it for me. I’m now thinking of taking a vacation outside the US during it. No intention of going g to anymore game.

New Caledonia should combine with Old Caledonia and maybe keep the score in single digits

48 teams ruined it for me long before Trump got his greasy little fingers on the games.

You missed '34? Sounded like a real hoot

The Stadium of the National Fascist Party was the venue for the final. With 80 minutes played, the Czechoslovaks led 1–0. The Italians managed to score before the final whistle and then added another goal in extra time to be crowned World Cup winners.

Throughout the years, several sources have reported that the tournament was marred by bribery and corruption, and could have been influenced by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, who used the tournament as a propaganda tool for fascism. According to these accusations, Mussolini personally selected referees for the matches where the Italy national team were playing, while the Italian government meddled in FIFA's organisation of events, reorganising the logistics of the matches to further promote fascism.

That's where I'm at. 32 teams was the sweet spot, this 48 bullshit will make the whole thing a joke.
