But the price difference between any old game at Wrigley and a seat behind home plate for a playoff game at Wrigley (which @Cascarino's Pizzeria was referring to) is quite massive. As an aside, Wrigley Field is a bit unique in that the outfield seats for any game are some of the most expensive in the ballpark. Could explain why the bleachers at Wrigley are about as diverse as a Boise airport lounge.
IIRC it was instituted when the pitchers of the late 60s/early 70s were dominant and scoring was low. Dr Nick voice "EVERYONE LOVE THE SCORING, AMIRITE?" I do think it takes away from the managerial decisions we grew up with. At least as NL fans. But now that pitchers are babies and hardly any of them get complete games, the focus now is almost entirely on which bum(s) do you trust in the bullpen the most that day? Also, some pitchers looked like they hadn't handled a bat since little league which meant automatic outs. Think of Lupus who would rather be collecting butterflies instead of playing baseball. I don't hate the DH as much as I thought I would. And MLB ain't going back to bifurcated rules. Now don't even get me started on the ghost runner in extra innings
Yeah, the DH rule is full mickey mouse. Are baseball managers even making their own decisions still? The whole job can easily be done with the basic level of A.I. that is publicly available now. Managers don't make any real decisions! Just seem to follow a script. (Oh, its the 9th inning and the tying run is on deck - time to put in my closer). There is good justification for having a 162-game season. Six months isn't that long for a season, after all. What's annoying is that baseball became like all the other American sports by installing a bloated playoff system. You can make a 162-game season mean something, but not when teams barely above .500 get to the playoffs (along with teams that won 100+ games). And while I'm on a rant, what's up with the netting encompassing the field of play? Does a fan sitting 300 feet from home plate really need protection from being hit by a baseball? If you get plunked from that distance, its on you!
Day-im! I couldn't stop laughing. Although I'm disappointed that Bart's calls to Moe's Tavern turned out to be such a blatant ripoff, even referencing Mr. Coholic.
Not sure how many of y'all are paying any attention to the WNBA, but right now, it's a mess. Both on court, and off court. Mind, I know know this because I follow some WoSo podcasts which cross over into general women's sports, and also have come across a few articles in the past couple of weeks. But this one is gives a sense of how bad things have gotten. https://apnews.com/article/collier-wnba-engelbert-201bb2fcfe53f086fe21dfd6170568ef For context, the players and league have been negotiating the CBA which ends October 31, after the playoffs end. The league has seemingly not wanted to raise salaries, particularly for rookies, who are making $80k/season (this article says $78k, but I consistently see $80k as the number). This is despite the revenue nearly doubling season over season (from $102m to 200m), due in large part to Clarke, Reese, and as the article says Paige Bueckers (whom I don't really know). Additionally, attendances have increase steadily in the past few years, even before Clark, and the league is expanding with a few more teams through 2030. There has also been an increasing complaint about the officiating, which is allowing increased physical play to occur, which is leading to injuries. It is interesting in this regard that Clark was at the center of controversy earlier this season when she got injured. As far as I can tell, she handled fairly well, politically, despite her fans complaining. Similar thing happened last season, sans injury, but this time other players backed her as well. And it was interesting that criticism was not at the offending player, but at the officials allowing things to go so far. While the article is from the AP and mostly focuses on Collier's end-of-season presser (she's player union vice president), articles about Collier's statement are all over. And in one I read a few days ago, it referenced the US Women's agreement for equity for setting the stage for this fight.
Dayum. Mark Sanchez stabbed in downtown Indianapolis last nite. Was in to call Colts game. Former NFL QB Mark Sanchez was stabbed last night in Indianapolis and is currently in the hospital with critical injuries, TMZ Sports has learned. Police received a call around 12:30 AM Saturday morning to a street in downtown Indianapolis for two injured people ... and one of the people was the former first-round draft pick. We're told Sanchez was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. It's unclear what led to the violent incident. https://www.tmz.com/2025/10/04/mark-sanchez-stabbed-indianapolis-critical-injury/
A quick look at Clemson’s season reveals that the only other team they’ve knocked off so far this year, Troy State, gave them a tougher game.
UCLA knocked off #7 Penn State this afternoon. Which means they can do something that a Penn State team coached by James Franklin can’t do: beat an opponent ranked in the top ten.
I've been getting National Enquirer/she said, she said- type articles about the WNBA stars (instead of basketball-only info and stats on the games and the league as a whole) in my email provider's feed. I know they have a different target audience, so I don't oass judgement on their choice of material to discuss. I'm hoping that they will eventually display the wisdom of Billie Jean King (the greatest pioneer in women's sports history). When female tennis players could not get what they felt they were worth from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour, they organized their own (WTA- Women's Tennis Association) tour, sponsored by Virginia Slims and others I cannot recall right now. Asking the NBA to pay the light bill for not-full arenas (they already do some of this for the NBA arenas, but the league itself makes money) and asking for a raise is irresponsible when they could organize their own thing like BJK did. Earnings from the sweat of your own brow are always better than accepting charity.
Spot on. Time to break away from the NBA. I've been toying with the same for an article, but I have a new editor I'm still trying to get a read on, and I haven't pushed it yet. But I'd forgotten the Virginia Slims parallel, so thanks for the reminder.
Clemson stopped scoring in the 3rd qtr Reviews coming in ESPN shares an interview with a UNC student going into commercial, with Clemson leading 28-3."TCU was... I went to that game. And that was, that was one of the saddest feelings I've had in University so far. I've failed midterms before, so that's saying something." 🏈💀 #CFB pic.twitter.com/RekRjA0cAx— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) October 4, 2025

If you hate Belichick or UNC football, prepare to OD on schadenfreude. https://www.wral.com/sports/belichi...hletic_untilsaturday_newsletter&userId=708167
If you hate Belichick. Yes. Or UNC football. UNCs irrelevant in CFB so no hate. Like hating on Northwestern.
Northwestern actually won the B1G several years ago. It's the equivalent of Vandy winning the SEC, which has never happened. Embarrassing for tOSU and Michigan.
Here’s a bit of alleged background on the hiring. It involves Thom Tillis and Chris Rufo. FFS https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/10/belichick-in-magaland
