Oh well, whether we advance or not, I’m glad I got to witness this: https://youtube.com/shorts/sJJfuCAHmhA?si=D6JxTlDpVC8Rjrkd
I think that is the greatest goal ever. In part because it took two great plays to score it. Let's not.forget Frank de Boer's insanely great driving pass. Oh, plus the call of the Dutch announcer...
Auckland Cit’s scored on your boys. That’s more humiliating than 10 of those goals are worth bragging about.
I’ve long felt soccer would be more interesting if, when there is a draw caused by an OG, the team that actually scored both goals (albeit one in the wrong net) should get all three points. Who’s with me! Reminds me of my son’s peak as an athlete. I’d take him out to play soccer in the yard when he was young, and he was a big kid for his age so at 3 he was unplayable. He did this thing they have around here called Kicking for Christ for 3 and 4 year olds. Do some drills, hear a Bible story, play a game. He scored all 3 goals, 2 in the right net, one he, well, got confused as 3 year olds will and scored in the wrong net. Good dribbling for a 3 year old though.
Boca player trying to keep cool. Man, this photo takes me back to playing baseball in July with my friends.
Oh, I dunno....my daughter's Ma State HS Championship team was 1 vs 30 +/- shots on goal with maybe 10 min possession. Daughter stole the ball like John Havlicek with mere min remaining and passed to wing who slotted home. Unfreakin believable!!!
I once scored a great goal against my own team. On a corner kick I was standing by the near post, and I tried to head the ball out but it flicked up and behind me past my goalkeeper into the upper corner of the far post. I think I deserved credit for that beautiful goal, but my teammates didn't agree.
Or do it like the AFL (Aussie Rules football). If it's the other team that knocks it through the center posts it's counted the same as a behind (1 point) not a goal (6 points). In soccer, maybe award 0.5 goal for an own goal. As such Auckland City won 1-0.5!
When I was a freshman in high school, had a cross country race one Saturday in early September (this was the suburbs of LA). As freshman, we ran the last (or second to last, don't remember if the girls ran before or after us) race. We started the race at something like noon or maybe 12:15. I'm fairly certain the temperature at race time would have been 110F or close to (the high temperature in a close by location, though "cooler" location, was 106F). I have been thinking about that this week and how today, there is no way we would have been allowed to run.
And Jesus said in his letter to the Dutchers: Ye shall play exciting football. Even Total Football. But sadly, ye shall not garner the ultimate prize. But do not despair. We must all be grateful for what we have. In the name of Me. Amen.
Honduras' goalkeeper scored a great og last night, punching a corner into the net from about 10 ft out. And then later the Curaçao goalkeeper nearly put it in his own net with one of those "bounced back off the post and then hit the keeper" scenarios. It would have been highly amusing to see a game where both goalkeepers scored an og.
