Well, Boca Juniors appealed to FIFA and I guess they must have helped somehow, because at the last moment Costa got his permision to work in the US for the duration of the tournament and will join the team in Miami.

Great news for Boca! Costa is a sub behind Marcos Rojo, but as the only other left footed central defender on the team he is as indispensible as a starter, because Rojo gets injured or suspended all the time. Personally, I would prefer for Ayrton to start over Rojo.

To be fair, the US has long been strict about foreign entries with a criminal record even before Trump.

Dude! Boca Juniors is bigger than US immigration policy.

At least that’s how I see it. :)

The good news: double digits goals in the first two matches :)
The bad news: All were scored by the same team

Really good attendance at the Bayern game, despite the mismatch.

Rose Bowl looks pretty packed despite insane temps here today. PSG with virtually the same squad from the Champions League.

    About the CWC

    Show Spoiler

Man, MLS is doing impossibly better than I expected so far. 1 goal, only 3 conceded, despite 2 top tier opponents.

Two big sporting wins this past weekend that got little or coverage in the US:

Tadej Pogacar won the Criterium du Dauphine warmup for the Tour de France is convincing fashion, winning three of the eight stages.

"Armand Duplantis broke the men's pole vault world record for a 12th time with a clearance of 6.28m at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm."

    12 times!!

I first heard of that trick in relation to Vasily Alexiev, the Soviet weightlifter who would wrap up the gold medal and then go a few grams above the world record.

Google’s bot tells me he did this around 80 times

With US sports fans focused on the Club World Cup, it’s hard for any other story to break through.

That and the Stanley Cup Final.

Honorable mention to Murray State in the CWS.

I prefer the women's cycling tour because Pogacar is simply not human and it's not fair to the other male riders to be professionals at the same time as him.

That's true... however he's increased the world record by 4 1/2" in the last 5 years. It took 26 years (1988 to 2014) prior to that for it to be increased by the same amount.

Pogacar is remarkable for sure. I still hope that Vingegaard can keep up with him in the Tour.
