Sure. But I was responding to your post about wishing they had spent more. They spent a lot----all those Division titles and several NL pennants were the proof in the pudding. Just lost our ability to hit in the clutch too many times in the WS.
You're right, I did say that exactly. I was thinking more about whether they spent as much as the Yankees. Maybe they did and it just didn't work out, I can't say. All I know is they were up two games to none in 1996 before Jim Leyritz erased the next whole half-decade of potential success.
No. We lost the first game back at Fulton County---Game 3. The Leyritz game was Game 4. I had season tickets back then and was at all three games at home. The next night when Pettitte shut us down 1-0 was almost as painful.
For a neutral, that was one of the greatest post-season pitchers’ duel ever. The Yankee run was unearned, as I recall. And if I recall correctly, it’s because the game reminded me of a lot of Braves games I’d watch with friends in the 80’s when Rick Mahler would throw a complete game (or at least 8 solid innings) without allowing an earned run, while still getting tagged with the loss.
I agree... ...and, it doesn't in any way make it less embarrassing for a team of fully paid professionals to lose to a semi-pro team. This would be like Man Citeh losing to Yeovil Town.
Nah, maybe more like Hull City losing to Yeovil town. Still embarrassing, and still shouldn't ever happen.
Johan Neeskens died yesterday. Part of the great '74 Dutch team that lost to West Germany in the final In fact, Neeskens scored the famous penalty for The Netherlands before West Germany had even touched the ball. He also played in the '78 final loss to Argentina. Fantastic player; up there with another Johan imo.
RIP to Cardinals & Redksins legend, Pat Fischer. One of the smallest guys in the NFL at the time but pound for pound one of the toughest. Used to battle Harold Carmichael who was a foot taller than him. 1843705855621115974 is not a valid tweet id
Now Luis Tiant. Every 70s kid did that windup in sandlot or wiffle ball. This clip has it all. Game 6 of the '75 WS. Tiant's dad watching. Tiant pitching to Rose who flies out to Yaz in LF. 1843686112298185162 is not a valid tweet id
https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/41683206/unruly-fans-warned-ahead-2025-ryder-cup-bethpage-black They need to just pull classy events out of the northeast entirely, or at least go back to Forest Hills and control who gets tix. New York is fine for baseball abd boxing. But the rest? Nah. The US (tennis) Open has been just as bad, because people just don't know how to conduct themselves. And because McEnroe and Connors weren't ever given any sort of home training. Host the Ryder in Augusta permanently. That'll eliminate the riff raff.
What is it- Jersey? I'm reminded of Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. That beautiful face and that Cagney voice clashed like oil and water.
So a quarterback who thinks he’s bigger than the team gets his way. Both predictable and entertaining.
I think Saleh's winning percentage was .357 (which makes him the 4th worst ever for the mighty Jets). As someone who was fooled this year into drafting Garrett Wilson as my #1 draft pick for FF, this took too long. LFG and start throwing bombs to GW!
Its well outside New York City but the issue you and the article allude to still applies. This Rogers guy comes across as a total dick. I can see why his own family disowned him decades ago.
