I've been going to Arsenal matches since 2003 and watching well before that. No one considers Chelsea north London.
Nothing you non-global beta cuck city residents would know or understand. Sincerely, Western NY Resident

I wonder what the American white nationalist, the one who believes in moms, baseball and apple pie, makes of Shohei Ohtani. I mean the guy just broke the 50/50 barrier in a game when he went 6/6, hit three homeruns, stole two bases, scored four times, and had 10 RBIs. That's a pretty good week for Aaron Judge. Wilt Chamberlin would have had to score 125 to match that single day. And the crazy thing is, he might come back next year as an even better pitcher. Yikes.
When I was studying economics one of the economic fields was economic geography. I can tell you that concept of global city is dead as a dodo or in current environment became a meaningless concept.
It's not really a British thing at all but then, we don't really have school sports against other schools that anyone would care about. I mean, you care while you're playing in them, (I played football and cricket for my school against other local schools), but nobody ever went to them.
I think you mean M25, (M5 is the motorway Birmingham down to the south west), but no, inner London is actually quite small. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_London There's greater London but even that's inside the M25, IIRC. Bear in mind I moved up to the sticks almost 20 years before the M25 was built, so...
Nobody goes to most high school sports in the US either, besides football and maybe basketball, and even that depends on the specific community. Like nobody outside of family goes to high school soccer games, it just doesn’t have the same cultural foundation.
Yeah, unfortunately, there's no Friday Night Lights for soccer. BTW, Coach Rush Propst is a piece of work.
Multiple titles at Hoover, and then went to Colquitt County in GA. They have some tradition of their own, including beating Valdosta IN Valdosta foe a title back in the early 00s. But he's a bit crooked, irked a few teachers during his time in suburban B'ham.
As somebody who grew up in a close-by city, and school in the same league as @luftmensch I can tell you that we were very much the same. Football was a community sport, in part because so many of the graduates of the high school moved back into town after university. And this was also the case for things like theater as well. Not to mention all the non-school events, like the 4th of July parade which always featured the high school band, and little league all-stars. Oh, and that city borders LA, literally.
There are small and medium-sized towns where the community rallies around extracurricular support, and there are the Sodom and Gomorrah places where there are Too Many Other Things To Do besides supporting extracurricular ed. Went to a state final in 1984 with my nose in the air thinking my Geek Squad NASA/Nazi town Alma Mater would destroy the podunk program we were playing that afternoon. Got to Legion Field and got into a small traffic jam on the interstate because said podunk program brough forty thousand fans. We lost 17-7, and over the years, I've come to realize that pumping out a bunch of Space Camp cadets does not ********ing make up for a state title that everyone who was old enough to be there will remember for the rest of their lives. I don't ever want to become so jaded and pseudo urbane that things like that don't matter to me.
I could live with that (were I an alum or admin) if he wins. But I've been reading now about disciplinary stuff, and even worse, recruiting. To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't stooped so low as to take a job coaching at a private White Christian school, but he's digging a moral hole that'll take him there if he ain't careful. And he ain't careful.
Those people believe in their genes not necessarily being about fast/quick, so they'd be willing to concede that to Ohani or some other POC. It's when you speak to them on the phone, you show up and they're* surprised you're Black, or you know the reference number and year of production of your watch... stuff like that, that they get uncomfortable with you, like you've invaded their space by not fitting into the space they created for you.. *because we can generally still tell
Well you're right cuz I normally don't care about affairs and all of that stuff with politicians and not so much coach is evil. It's just I know this guy coaching these high school kids is talking the same kind of nonsense while he's out there being messy.
