People were tuned in looking to hear about him. Every click about Mr. Dogg made somebody money.

    Get the paper
    See the Games
    Get your own pin

Hell, yeah, he was supposed to take that deal.

Young people will start looking at future Games the way some people look at SB commercials and the halftime show. "Who was the celeb in 2036?"

Oh, yeah, take the deal. But who ever is doing this, it is great for the Olys as well. He is part of the Chiles (gymnastic) family, but that he is showing up everywhere, with everybody, is really doing great at promoting the Olys overall.

A couple of the team artistic routines in the Synchronized Swimming competition were stunning. The strength, endurance, and athleticism in combination with the synchronization needed to pull one of these routines off is wild.

The only thing that bummed me out about the Bolivian dude winning gold for Argentina is that Bolivia is the only South American country to never win an Olympic medal. Of course it's unlikely he would be a gold medalist without moving to Argentina.

Now that’s a hard thing to calculate, but the dude’s antics are all over social media and are very much doing their part to call attention to the games.

We just watched the US women’s routine, it was pretty cool. My mom did synchronized swimming in the 1950’s back when it was called water ballet, and it was one of the only athletic events women could participate in. It’s a very different beast now. People talk about how grueling water polo is, but this has got to be similar. I’m particularly impressed with their breath management, getting enough air for their underwater portions while simultaneously dancing and mugging for the judges.

Anyway we’ve been watching highlights of different sports on YouTube mostly, before the swimming it was long jump. My wife heard somebody describe the Olympics as “sports tapas” and that’s right on, particularly when you watch them the way we are.

I didn't know this, and yeah, it's kind of a shame. But he probably would not have won gold without the move. It reminds me of Sol Campbell going from Spurs to Arsenal. Wiki suggests he really led Spurs fans on and lied about multiple things before leaving. I don't know if this gold medalist did any of that.

Great. That was a weak looking red she got. But with the team winning without her. Does she start or come off the bench?

No way, Kendrick’s still artistically relevant, he doesn’t need to bother.

I can’t think of anyone who’s reinvented himself quite like Snoop Dogg, while also not feeling like a total sellout.

Handball 1/4 final: Germany beats the reigning olympic champions France in a thrilling game.

It's a sad way for Nikola Karabatic to retire after an illustrious career spanning over 20 years, at the end of which he can rightfully be considered the greatest handball player of all time

Except in this case the replacement was arguably Brazil's best player in both games Marta missed whereas in Portugal's case the plan B was Ramos (can't recall his first name). But yeah, of course they will start Marta. Hopefully they can find a place for her replacement (Portilho) as well.

And to the lesser watched sports.

I also just read that Griezmann was doing the same for France.

    https://www.npr.org/2024/08/07/g-s1-15617/olympians-favorite-athletes-paris

The only person who might one-up Snoop for the biggest Olympics fan title — who also wears the honorary badge — might be Antoine Griezmann. Atlético Madrid wouldn’t allow the French soccer player the possibility of playing the Olympics due to his commitments with the club.

    No matter.

Right up until the day he needed to be in Madrid for pre-season training, Griezmann was at the Paris Games keeping an impossibly busy schedule.

If you want to know where the action is happening at any given time, you’d do well to follow his X (formerly Twitter) feed, where he issues “Alertes Medailles” when hardware is won for France. The New York Times described him as a “voluntary one-man wire service” for the Olympics.

When he failed to post a timely alert for a triathlon medal, he apologized for the delay.

There is a lot of controversy about this. Personally, I believe it was the same argument that all the big name Spurs stars have - bring in players to support or they'll leave. Campbell asked for that, and it didn't happen, so he left. I was always in the camp that thought he would leave when he did. And, while I'm disappointed he went to Arsenal, I am a Sol Campbell fan (as a defender, myself) and am glad he won some hardware.

No. She starts for Orlando, and is a major contributor to their team. She is in a better place than Ronaldo, relative.

I don't know, they way Brasil beat Spain says a lot. That said, Coll ('keeper) got injured and didn't seem up to her normal level. With the way both teams are playing, I can see this being a high scoring match. I really think it will be exciting.

But, yeah, I really want Marta to bow out with the gold.
