Dear Huss, This will be the Burn's first-ever game at Dragon Stadium. Make sure that the BigSoccer servers and network connection are ready for this one.
That's good news, no fire home games on saturday afternoons in april and may at least.Although they will probablly wait until july when it's 90 degrees out to make the fire play in the afternoon, with the sun reflecting off the artificial surface.
At least in April, afternoon wouldn't be the end of the world, considering how dodgy the weather is in the spring. Seemed like it was Memorial Day last year before we had a weekend that wasn't cold, or rainy, or both. April 27 last year (the home opener) was both. In a big way.
It's not the sun reflecting that makes it hot. It's the black rubber shards ABSORBING the light and heat waves.
oh man oh man, that was a good one Mike. after a long day's work it's nice to see such quality ripping of Liam taking place.
Why do astroturf carpets without the black rubber shards get so hot, too? Just askin' 'cause I never paid attention in Artificial Sports Surfaces class when I was a child.
More than likely cause of the nature of the material (thick carpet) and the fact the space, however small, between the carpet and the concrete beneath creats an oven-like effect.
Fire home opener last year. Great memories. Watching the game tape delayed on Fox Sports Chicago. Cameras deluged with rain drops and cameramen not wiping very often. Blurry. The misery and ecstacy of the crowd came through the screen that day. It wasn't a pretty picture, but it was a great telecast (not being sarcastic either). Looks like my Saturdays are set this summer. Yard work done before 3 pm and visiting done after 5 pm.
Talk about the Rapids and DC not gettin' any love - but at least I get to watch the MLS champs three times!
Looks pretty obvious they are hoping Ruiz, Twellman, Mathis and Landon burn it up in the early going. DC does have three games later in the season scheduled for 4 p.m., including two against the Metros.
Supposedly it also has something to do with the fact that "it does not have the cooling effect of water aspirated from the subsoil through the root structure and evaporated into the air that is characteristic of natural grass." Which makes sense, I guess.
Actually, that's just to knock the dust down. As for the rest, I was going to mention the fact that grass is cooler because of water evaporation but kenntomasch beat me to it. Additionally though, old artificial surfaces often sat on a concrete slab, which acted as a heat storage device. C in SJ
I thought it was the media trying to keep soccer down. When you factor in the ABC game on 4/5, the Crew are getting all kinds of love. Build it and we'll put it on TV seems to part of the philosophy, I would assume.
Well, they've got to get their posterboy on as much as possible. The public demands more McBri - oh, poop. Maybe they're grooming Brian Dunseth for greater stardom. But I'm sure the general public will be dying to tune in to watch the defending US Open Cup champions.
If they are grooming Dunseth for stardom I wish they would tell the crew so they would get him signed. Last year the crew had plenty of TV games early in the seaosn too, and none towards the end. It all works out.
