It's a couple of blocks from the North Hills station...parking isn't bad during the day on a Saturday or Sunday.

of the ones i know/recognize on this list, Tir na Nog's probably the only one that will be open at that time. they just don't actually start serving breakfast (mmm, steak and eggs) until 9 AM.

i doubt you'll be able to get into the AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) unless you're a member. our lady of fatima? sweet, let's go to church to watch some EPL action. and a bakery too? this is a very eclectic list of establishments. where's the taxidermist, or flower shop?
    :p

The Spurs 'youth squad' held their own yesterday I'm pleased with how the game went. Plus the Carling Cup match is the more important game at this point.

As you get to know this group better, you'll begin to realize why a pub thread and the letters "OT" are so important! ;)

The place I usually go on saturday afternoon is called T hogan's Pub. It's in roxborough on rochelle st. Not quite the NE but just putting it out there. Theres not a huge crowd cause most Yanks down here don't fancy a good match. If you know of anything down in center city post it!

the "big three" in center city would be the Dark Horse, Tir na Nog, and Fado.

I am a server/bartender at the Fox and Hound, which is a pretty big sports bar in center city. We have two 96inch HD projectors, two 67inch HD projectors and one older pull down projector plus over 25 other tv's. My manager is giving me the go ahead on trying things to attract soccer fans during the day since we have every soccer channel except deportes(workin on that, district manager says he will have it for me asap) and no one comes in during the day to watch soccer live on FSC, Setanta and GOLtv. I am new to this forum so i can't create a thread yet but if someone would be willing to start a forum for things you are looking for in a good pub to watch the games i can run them by him and get this started within a week or two. Some ideas i threw by him were an early happy hour(2.50 pints from 1pm-4pm, half price appetizers for anyone wearing a soccer jersey during happy hour etc.), jersey giveaways, etc. Now our bar already has an all day happy hour from 11am-Midnite, Monday-Friday along with 4 other happy hour specials Monday-Friday 5pm-7pm, so we can't get too carried away but if it is reasonable I might be able to make it happen. So if anyone wants to start a request thread for what you want in a pub feel free, if not in due time I will start one. Just know though that the sooner i get requests, the sooner it can happen. I'm tired of being the only soccer fan there and have a great opportunity to make a great soccer pub out of this so lets make it happen.

i watched the world cup final (italy v france) at FnH ... moreso because fado was packed to the gills and i didn't get there nearly early enough to find a good spot. FnH didn't really strike me as a soccer-friendly bar at the time, mainly because i had only been there for random happy hours and MNF. i was impressed with the turnout on that day 2 years ago. sometimes you don't realize how many soccer fans are around, even if only for a quadrennial tournament.

i hadn't really seen much catering to the soccer crowd since then (i walk right by it on my way to/from work). i'm glad to hear that there is a push to entice the footy fans ... the more soccer-friendly bars in this town the better. and i'd be more than happy to take advantage of the offers.

    :)

I didn't work there at the time of the world cup, nor the euro cup so I can't vouch for that. I do know what you said is correct, everyone flooded there when fado filled up during both events. I also know fado does saturday morning soccer, we are trying to get a crowd in during the week for morning soccer that way when college football is over on saturday's in a couple of weeks we can play soccer as well. I am meeting with the district manager this afternoon, and will be showing him this forum of local philly soccer fans to prove that there is a strong following. For those that have never been to FnH we are rather large for a center city sports bar, on the scale of chickie and pete's. We have over 30 beers on tap, plenty of specialty brews and imports. With the proper crowd we will be able to play the sound for all the games through the bar's sound system, and can show several different games at once considering we have 9 HD Directv boxes and 2 HD comcast boxes. Like I said before I am working on getting deportes and fox soccer deportes(we have the regular fox soccer channel). We also have every mls channel but that is worthless right now till the season starts back up again, as well as every other sports channel like setanta, GOLTV, espnU and classic which has games on during world cup and euro cup. I have to run to work but will check back with this thread to see if anyone else has replied....

The Green Parrot Irish Pub in Newtown has told me that the new pub will be opening its doors in late February...
To showcase the "soccer-friendly" atmosphere, they are planning a kegs & eggs for the first matchday following the grand opening... I will post more info as they pass it along to me...
