I have made some observations in the months following and during the World Cup and i have come up with this: 1. Futbol is much more fun than watching Football... 2. A lot of Americans jumped on to Landon's bandwagon during June as he was the most "hyped up" player on the USA team.. 3. The newspapers in the Bay Area gave The USA team headlines on the sports page when they were qualified for the Quarters, but when the Quakes clinched playoffs..well we didnt get a HUGE headline.... 4. America may never be a "Soccer Playing Nation". If we cannot manage to root for our USA team when they reach the highest plateau ever in the World Cup, then how is soccer ever gonna become huge? ok..that probably didnt make much sense to any of you..but after a few of my posts..then youll realize i dont make much sense.... sara
I think eventually people will catch on. (I was thinking about something along these lines earlier today.) People WILL get tired of overpaid baseball players sometime and they'll have to find something new. The only sport that America doesn't have under a magnifying glass is soccer, so that's what they'll go watch. Football (American) will always be around. No way to get rid of it. The NASCAR thing will unfortunately never die. Basketball will stay cos it's like an instead-gratification type of thing; score a point every few seconds and people like to yell and scream so it's staying. But baseball is a sport where there's not much to see (IMO). So I think soccer will someday replace baseball.
i am a HUGE baseball fan as well....and i think baseball is gonna die especially with the whole labor talks and crap but i doubt soccer will get that huge. I LOVE SOCCER and i want it to be HUGE but i dunno, i just refuse to think that Baseball will die totally...i just want soccer to get some recognition in the Americas....
Yeah I know what you mean. I live in NASCAR country and the only time people stop talking about that is to talk about college football. Nothing against college football (GO FSU, Auburn, and LSU), but I get kind of bored by it. I love the teams that I support, but I love soccer more. I used to like baseball but that last threat of a strike and them wanting more money was the end for me.
ugh..the whole labor talks and crap sickend me to the core..but seeing as how i am a relatively new fan <1998 GO BRAVES> i couldnt desert my team in the best season they ahve had for a while..if baseball had struck <striked> i would have definetly been gone though...but soccer is the best! <feels weird calling it soccer..its all Futbol!> sara
Luckily for me, I dont have this problem as football is probably the biggest thing in this country (after EastEnders......urgh) and it will always be like that. Its actually getting more popular with every major tournament. Still a shoddy place though Go Quakes Die Ruiz
you have no idea how much i wish i lived in England <UK> i would LOVE it. its so different Futbol. its amazing how the players play! i would also love to go watch Ronaldo in Spain....sigh..i wish soccer could reach that level here.... sara

Are they still watching that in the UK? It is on several of the PBS outlets regularly and on BBC America/World. Not my cup of tea, a bit too soapy. I was disappointed because Wendy Richard, who was Miss Brahms on AYBS? (an all-time favorite with me), is no longer the bird she once was.
I make a call for the 'Official EastEnders Thread' Its long-overdue A bit too soapy? It is a soap, a soap opera no less. I think we should totally swap places...... Newcastle Utd, Middlesbrough and Sunderland (w/ Mr Reyna) are all super-close. Saw 2 Newcastle games last year. Pretty cool. And, another plus point of my location, is I get to see Hartlepool Utd. The greatest team ever. They could be in the Prem if they wanted, but they are giving all of the other teams a chance (becasue they are nice, like Ian), and they like it in Division3 anyways. Sort out a trading of places and I'll do it. Just one MLS game, thats all I ask. I'd go see KC vs The Burn if I could. Well..........maybe. SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES *Ian* xx
I think soccer (esp. MLS) should get more attention and respect, but at the same time it's cool having the sport somewhat to ourselves. The players are at a reachable level for the fans and they really appreciate us. If the league got too big I'd be afraid that the players wouldn't have the fan interaction they do now. Plus most of the fans at games now are usually there because they like soccer so that right there makes them somewhat intelligent. Seriously though, I think MLS should grow but not beyond a comfortable level.
