I did a year end summary of the soccer movies I reviewed in 2019 — about 43 films. I can’t believe I have been doing this for 8 years now. I am almost at 300 football films reviewed, but there are now 600 I haven’t seen, because the list grows so fast, and also they are still hard to find in theaters or online.

The short live action film Nefta Football Club is the first soccer movie that I know of to be nominated for an Oscar! You can watch it for free on Vimeo.

All the Freckles in the World (Todas las pecas del mundo) is now on Netflix but not worth your time.

You can watch Open Up to Me (2013) on Hoopla and maybe on Amazon Prime.

The Polish drama Boisko Bezdomnych (2008) aka The Outsiders is the first fictional film I've seen about the Homeless World Cup. Usually this topic is only covered in documentaries. Now on Amazon Prime in the USA. This is my 300th soccer movie review, but now there are 600 more to watch!

StreetKids United 2: The Girls of Rio (2015) is similar to Zebras in that it is about a team that goes to the 2014 Street Child World Cup in Brazil. I watched it on my library's Kanopy streaming service.

Egaro: The Eleven (2011) is a piece of Indian 1911 football history. Now on Amazon Prime.

Streetball (2010) is a homeless world cup film that has received little publicity, but in my view is the best of that genre. Now on Amazon Prime in the USA.

I decided not to renew my annual subscription to ESPN+, so I watched the remaining ESPN 30 for 30 and 9 for Nine episodes that I had not already seen. Turns out that The 99ers is really excellent. If you fell in love with USWNT during their 1999 campaign, you must watch it, has a lot of Julie Foudy's personal footage.

The English Game from Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes and Netflix, is wonderful escapism, a sort of soccer soap costume drama historical series.

Footeuses (2020) is about women footballers in France. It is on youtube. From the same company that created Concrete Football.
