I saw a cool soccer movie on IFC channel last night called "The Cup". It's an Indian movie, I believe, about exiled Tibetan monks in a monastery in India and their passion to see the '98 World Cup on satellite TV. It is based on real events. It's a couple of years old (with subtitles) but I hadn't seen or heard about it anywhere. I thought I'd start a post about it. It will likely be shown again on IFC since they tend to repeat their movies. It's "Fever Pitch" with Tibetan monks. It shows their secular side.
Strangely enough, some of the guys where I work view this as a "Monastary movie" and not a soccer movie. Of course, they're Benedictine monks, so that's not a surprise. But they did like the movie, too.
I taped this from IFC and it's a cute movie. I think most of the people in the movie were actual monks, not professional actors. I hope someone has bought the younger monk a Tibet National Team jersey. http://www.worldsoccershop.com/shop/product_overview.asp?Sub=True&CategoryID=221&Department=9
