I've got a Colombian American friend, Celimo Cordoba, who just opened a Latinamerican restaurant @ Colfax and Chambers a couple of months ago. He recently got his liquor license, a full stocked bar and always has a TV tuned into whatever soccer game happens to be on. He showed both the US Nats/Turkey game and the Brazil/Cameroon game last night. If there's a Rapids or Nats game on TV, it's a no-brainer that he'd have it on. The name of the place is El Trapiche and it's on the Northeast corner of Colfax and Chambers. The address is 15355 E Colfax Ave E-2. The phone number is 303 340-5858. If you call, ask for Celimo. Try the empenadas(sp?).
Sounds like stumbling distance for you---as long as somebody points you in the right direction as you're leaving.
you mean uphill. downhill on the way back! next time in colorado i'm there!! colombian food AND soccer?? tell me... is there the obligatory sexy woman working there? its a rule, all ecua restaurants have one hot woman in them to attract customers.. and in my experience (limited to cali) colombia follows that rule too. as does greece. i used to know a guy from barranquilla, his mom would make food the likes of which you cannot imagine, and he'd bring leftovers around every once in a while.
6/21 - Nats/Brazil @ El Trapiche My wife's gonna let me cruise on over. I talked to Celimo this morning and he says he's got Telefutura. I'll be there around 12:45.
Fantastic food, friendly staff, will have just about any soccer match on, definitely a place to go back to! I'll go occasionally just for dinner.
A bit more info and perspective. There was just one 27" TV perched on the bar facing the tables. The owner suggested he'll be getting a big screen sometime. Not really a sports grill at this time. Columbian food was very good (not really Mexican food-like at all). Some neat drinks to order if you're adventerous (not heavy liquor -- just interesting/unique). I had the fish&onions/fried-banana/salad, chicken empanadas, and some funky milky drink. Very open/clean restaurant and I'd urge all to try it if you're in the area. North-east corner of Chambers & Colfax in Aurora (east of I-225). Not likely that they will host an official Rapids viewing, but I'm sure they will put the match on if you ask.
It is definitely an option, especially if you're not going to Aztec Sol or wherever. The food is phenomonal. Think I'm going to head there on the way home from work soon just for dinner.
