With the open cup starting up again I remembered seeing this a few years ago. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3546349 I thought 11.3 sounded like a pretty substantial investment and maybe the Kings were looking to move up but never heard anything about it after that. I wanted to see what had happened on this and it looks like they played there through last season but aren't this season. This season they list their home games at Northern Kentucky University. Anyone from Cincinnati know the reason they aren't using the facility they bought? Have they abandoned it? Did they sell it? Maybe a positive are they upgrading it? Last years schedule listing Town & Country Sports Complex http://www.kingssasoccer.com/home/504555.html This years schedule listing Northern Kentucky Universit http://www.kingssasoccer.com/team/schedule/2466028_36407099.html Would love to see some other Ohio/Regional teams move up so what gives?
According to Wikipedia, they ended up moving down to the PDL after that season because of their incompetence on the field. Sounds like they've been pretty bad since, even in the PDL.
Yeah, and they lost their first game this year but I just can't find anything about what they're doing with the sports complex they bought. Seems like such a waste to spend 11.3 million dollars to play there for four years and then rent out a college stadium five years later. And just for the hell of it: USL Pro Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-5-2 Dayton Dutch Lions 0-4-3 NPSL AFC Cleveland Royals 1-0-2 Detroit City FC 1-0-2 PDL Michigan Bucks 1-0-0 Cincinnati Kings 0-1-0 All W-L-T
What's the endgame for these guys? They aren't drawing more than 700 fans per game and they've been terrible. Over/under on when the parent club pulls the plug? I'd love to see them succeed, but they've been pretty bad on the field since their inception.
My daughter played a tournament on those fields in the spring, I think it was the Elite Spring Thaw. Nice facility, great fields. I think the inside has a small practice field, pool, and some other sports courts. I bet they are making more money renting out the fields than they did playing there.
Update: USL Pro Pittsburgh Riverhounds 3-6-5 Dayton Dutch Lions 1-7-6 (still can’t believe we lost to this team) NPSL Detroit City FC 5-2-5 (first in their conference) AFC Cleveland Royals 3-1-6 PDL Michigan Bucks 10-0-2 (first in their division) Cincinnati Kings 4-6-3 Good showing for Detroit this year.
Yeah they are really bad, the Crew should get into Pittsburgh like they have in Detroit it'd have to be more ground up in Pittsburgh but there has to be talent falling through the cracks in that city.
Riverhounds finally broke ground on their stadium, it will be called Highmark Stadium and the new opening date is sometime fall 2012. Keep in mind they were supposed to break ground two months ago and they talked about playing in it by mid summer so their expectations haven't met with reality so far. Here is a youtube walk through of the place.
