I'm traveling to Sydney on business -- will be there on August 29th, 30th and 31st? Will there be any professional football (soccer) matches? if so, where and when?

Unfortunately for you mid week games are rare here, so you're out of luck.

    Nat'l Team:
Sunday evening (the 27th) is the opening round of the A-League and Sydney will play the Central Coast at home in what is a rematch of last years grand final.

Book your tickets a couple of days earlier ;)

... and then next week Sydney FC is coming to Melbourne (Sat 2/9), so Twelfth Man is really out of luck.

Thank you all for answering my question. It's too bad I'll miss games here.

By the way, who won the rematch of last year's A-league championship and by what score?

Sydney won 1-0, although Central Coast were the better side and had many more chances. The Sydney goalkeeper, Clint Bolton, made half a dozen top-notch saves to keep a clean sheet.
