Normally there are complaints as to how the mass media caters to soccer haters. This is a instance where someone writing in is the hater & the newspaper puts him in his place. This was in Sunday's Post. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/25/AR2007082501029.html You may want to move this. While it mentions soccer & DC it doesn't specifically mention DC United.
I'm pretty sure that was George Solomon writing the response, since it was located in his Sunday column section. Although not shown in the quote above, he also mentioned that baseball's abandonment of DC for 33 years was related. George was the AME Sports (the head sports guy) at The Post when the soccer coverage started to grow. When I used to push my head in his doorway to ask for more coverage he always responded that it would expand based upon butts in seats. So all of us who get to RFK on a regular basis can congratulate ourselves for doing our part. His opinion is one that was earned, by the team, by us, and by the persistence of a guy named Goff.
