Does anyone know of any decent soccer board games, past or present? I've never heard of any, but I'm guessing there must be some English ones. I'm specifically thinking of somewhat serious simulations, like the Strat-O-Matic games they have for the big four American sports.
http://www.sportsgameshop.com/soc.html Here is a review of Full Time. http://www.leisuregames.co.uk/counterreviews/full_time.htm I have not played or seen any of these games. Two now are produced by another copy but a link is provided.
have you heard of subbuteo table soccer? not sure what you're trying to find in the way of board games, but go to www.americansubbuteo.com or www.worldtablesoccer.com and have a look
Hi Stephen, The folks here are right, you cannot go wrong with Subbuteo. However, I'm also an avid sports simulation player and can shed some light on this subject for you. There are 2 games that I recommend, for differing reasons. 1) Goal! Pro Soccer. This game is available FREE for download at http://www.tabletop-sports.com ... follow the Downloads link, then under the Soccer category, and you will see the downloads available. This game is excellent in that it is fast paced (I play games in as little as 10-15 minutes). A decent array of teams are available, and more are coming. I can guarantee this because I'm one of the people that rates the teams! I have already done the 2002-03 SPL and am working on the 2003-04 EPL currently. This game can be played using either a Random number card deck (included) or there is a chart where a 2d10 are used to generate results. I prefer the dice version, personally. 2) Classic Soccer by Time Travel Games This game can be purchased at http://www.timetravelgames.com. The person who developed it, Anthony Apostolico, has gone through 15 years of tweaking to get this game right. I know someone who has literally played more than 1,000 matches with it (he's played 3 Serie A full seasons!) and swears by it. A tremendous number of teams and national sides are available, including full leagues and full World Cups. For the $20 or $25 you spend on the game (depending on which teams you want to get with it), it is an absolute bargain. The game play from what I understand is a bit complicated at first, but people who play often have their gametime down to about 45 minutes, and by all account, it is a tremendous recreation of how the game is actually played. I have just orderd this game, along with teams such as 59-60 Real Madrid; 67-68 Manchester United; 88-89 AC Milan; 94-95 Ajax, and I got some national teams, including the powerhouse but not champion '54 Hungary. If you would like more information on these games, contact me at edmorgans@comcast.net, and I will point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
Three dice and chart simulations are available through 'Owzat Games: http://www.owzatgames.com/page2.html I haven't played or seen any of the games. There aren't any bargains here due to the unfavorable exchange rate.
I love Subbuteo. Got my first set Christmas, 1974. For board games, these probably aren't even published anymore, but there's - "Strategy Cup Soccer" St. Nicholas Enterprises, San Jose, CA. (mid 80's) - "PoTTER International Soccer League" which was initially made in West Germany, but was apparently franchised to a southern California Company 12 years ago, or so. - "Ultimate Soccer of America." (late 90's) Built to capitalize on the launch of MLS and the success of the US WWC team.
Soccer board games? Does anyone know of any soccer-based board games out there? Like games where you flick the players to direct the ball, or smth like that. The stuff I've seen at Sears and such is very bulky and comes with its own table!
Re: Soccer board games? Sounds like Subbuteo, where you "flick to kick" the players. My brother and I used to have that, but I haven't seen it in recent years. I'm sure if you google "Subbuteo" you'll find some links.
Re: Soccer board games? That's not what I played, but I saw Subbuteo advertised on craigslist just now. Is it any good?
