Agreed. Y’all, these women are fantastic. This team has made me fall in love with the Women Yanks again.
Yes, from the three group games and two extra time matches, this journey to olympic gold has been a marathon.
Mallory Swanson was on Sophia Smith was off, but Smith didn't play the ball. Replay confirmed Swanson was on. Great ball from Korbin Albert.
There's times we criticize the coaches for being utterly daft. Revisiting from a few weeks ago, people were outraged, shocked, flabbergasted, whatever that Alex Morgan and Caitlin Clark didn't make their respective Olympic teams. Things definitely turned out ok.
Yeah I’m not an nba fan either . I only watch playoffs and only a few playoff games tbh not having a favorite team is the reason. If Columbus gets team or Cincinnati than I’ll be a fan . But I don’t like any teams for Cleveland or outside of Ohio.
I think the reasoning behind leaving Clark off the team was wrong. She absolutely should be on the team. Hopefully they win gold anyways. Morgan drama i have no idea because Idk how good she is vrs the others. I just always liked her for multiple reasons.
The issue, IMO, is this: The coach shouldn't be worried about selling tickets, growing the game or whatever else. The coach should be worried about winning gold. ...and right now, it's definitely working. I think the drama with Alex Morgan was that a lot of fans naturally have their favorite. For some fans, she was their favorite. Meanwhile, she just got old. That's all it was. Emma Hayes knew the team had to rebuild before the next WWC and knew the rebuild had to start ASAP.
USA basketball is now asking if they're World Champions. Germany won the FIBA World Cup. Are we the World Champs now?🇺🇸 #USABMNT pic.twitter.com/t4M9NeBkU6— USA Basketball (@usabasketball) August 10, 2024 https://www.si.com/onsi/athlete-lif...ows-zero-class-with-noah-lyles-trolling-tweet
They may have won without Clark but I think they would have been better with her. If your worried about media and things off the court your not an elite coach. You should want the best players on your roster. I’m glad that we won Gold because it would be a lot of scrutiny if we lost. They definitely didn’t have outside shooting going in the final and Clark might not be Curry but I’m not sure anyone in the WNBA is a better outside shooter.
These are two very different situations. Morgan was left off the women's soccer team in their movement away from an insular group of players Clark was not even considered because the women's basketball team is still an insular closed off group of players ( I don't know enough about the basketball player pool to argue one way or the other who should have been on the team).
Clark should have been on the team, both because she's the future and because they needed better outside shooting this year. She was certainly more deserving than 42 year old Diana Taurasi, who got her 6th gold medal but didn't play a minute in the final.
Clark had just played 11 straight months of basketball and was struggling in her first few months of the WNBA. But to use a soccer reference, it looks like they took Landon instead of Julian Green here.
Green nowhere as good as Clark. She was the best draft pick in many years and they had a need for her abilities. Green was all potential and had never really proven anything. They also could have brought in both Green & Donovan.
