So where's the rest of the pre-season pools? I see that the ACC coaches pre-season pool is out...NC, Virgina, Clemson...what about the rest? Or maybe your picks before they come out...
pre season poll There is no pre season PAC 10 poll out yet but I will make my predictions: 1. UCLA 2. Stanford 3. Arizona State 4. Washington 5. Cal 6. USC 7. Oregon 8. Washington State 9. Oregon State 10. Arizona
My Pac-10 Poll 1. UCLA 2. Stanford 3. Cal 4. Arizona State 5. Oregon State 6. USC 7. Washington 8. Washington State 9. Oregon 10. Arizona
So where's the rest of the pre-season pools? Don't know much about this conference but have been reading some of the sites: Based on recruits from last season and this and how they did last season: SEC 1. Tennessee (Kim Patrick, etal + coach) 2. Florida (Abby's gone, so is --Sellers) 2. Georgia (Good recruits last season and some top players back, good forward coming in, good coach) 3. Auburn (good recruits, coach going places) 4. Miss State (good recruits) 5. Vanderbilt (aren't they always in the hunt?) 6. UK (ditto) 7. Mississippi (unknown) 8. South Carolina (new coach with good recruits) 9. Alabama ? 9. Arkansas (good coach, but nothing seems to spark) 9. LSU (coach with no pay and I think there has always been a recruiting issue --like keeping players at home)
ACC Here's the ACC poll, done by the coaches. We've got another well-balanced league this year, but it would be hard not to pick UNC for first place. UVa is second and Clemson is third. http://tarheelblue.ocsn.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/072902aaa.html Any arguments? I was surprised to see Wake as low as 6th, but then Duke is at 5th and they are going to be good this season I think. Clemson and FSU are going to have to scrap to stay up there in 3rd and 4th.
And the WCC coaches poll - no argument from me, though I do think the Broncos will suffer if Aly Wagner gets called up for the full fall WNT schedule: 1. Santa Clara (7) 49 2. Portland (1) 42 3. Saint Mary's 33 4. Pepperdine 31 5. San Diego 27 6. Loyola Marymount 20 7. San Francisco 11 8. Gonzaga 7 ( ) first place votes

NSCAA/adidas Preseason College Poll Dates Announced ...to be released the week of Aug. 19. In case anyone was wondering. - I was.
Our conference's just came out today. http://www.northcentralconference.org/ 1. Northern Colorado (5) 73 pts. 2. Nebraska-Omaha (2) 69 pts. 3. Minnesota State-Mankato (1) 66 pts. 4. South Dakota State (1) 60 pts. 5. North Dakota State 41 pts. 6. North Dakota 32 pts. 7. South Dakota 32 pts. 8. St. Cloud State 22 pts. 9. Augustana 9 pts. My picks: 1. No. Colorado: Tactically sound, smart team. Mandy Nilsen is the best player in the NCC by far. Second only to Truman State in the region. 2. Minnesota-Mankato: Blew great NCAAs chance last season, Danni Klinsing and Randi (not Andy) Warhol are keys to success. 3. Nebraska-Omaha: Lost Brandy McSorley, conference's top goal-scorer, in the off-season, but still dangerous. Transfers could play big role in landing 1st NCAA bid. 4. SDSU: International flavor (players from England, T&T, Sweden, etc.), but still not quite good enough to top the NCC. 5. South Dakota: Will be much improved from last year, but reliable goalkeeping must be found. 6. NDSU: Only NCC team to play on turf, so they're tough at home, but average everywhere else. 7. North Dakota: The Grand Forks-Fargo two-step is still the toughest in the region. 8. SCSU: Still a young team, but should improve from last season. 9. Augustana: 0-16 last season, 5 goals scored vs. 117 allowed. 'Nuff said.

So far we've got preseason polls from 10 Division I conferences: Atlantic Coast (ACC) Atlantic Sun Big East Conference-USA (CUSA) Horizon League Ohio Valley (OVC) Southland Southeast Conference (SEC) West Coast Conference (WCC) Western Athletic (WAC) Only 20 DI conferences to go.
The official SEC poll hasn't been released yet, though I wouldn't be surprised if it mirrors the one posted earlier in this thread. Of course, the SEC is split up into East and West Divisions, so it will look a little different.

Rating conferences Looking at all these polls I got to wondering what the Albyn Jones ratings (at SoccerRatings.com) might suggest about the relative strengths of the various conferences. I graphed the final 2001 ratings for women's Division I conferences. Here's the graph, showing median, minimum and maximum ratings for each conference. No real surprises but it's interesting. As expected, ACC is #1, followed closely by PAC 10 and WCC, but look at how many conferences have teams rated equal to the medians in those conferences, all the way down to a conference rated in the bottom third of all conferences. Some conferences have a wide range of ratings (look at the WCC) while others have a narrow range. And look at the Big12, with a minimum so close to the median. There's a lot of other interesing stuff in the graph (well, at least it's interesting to me). I also did a graph plotting the ratings for all teams in DI, DII, DIII and the NAIA. Very interesting for people who like to compare divisions. I'll probablly post a link to that graph next week in another thread.

First preseason National poll is out. The guy at Soccer Buzz has put out his preseason Top 25. Some shockers here. Like UCLA falling to 11. Of course historically Soccer Buzz has struggled to find precision. It does give us something to talk about until the scrimmages and games start. I am not sure FSU or SMU are quite that strong either. FSU will convince me if they do it in the ACC, but SMU really has no one to test them in the WAC so it may be NCAAs before thay can convince me. Shame on a bunch of coaches, if Harvard and Princeton and Dartmouth are all out recruiting without the benefit of any athletic scholarships.
