Had to cut the other thread off at 975 posts. Saw this for the first time last night...great skate footage, and a well told weird & sad story.
http://www.filmmovement.com/FilmDetail.aspx?ProductID=0104&canadian= Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity. Loved it. Canadian indie starring Sandra Oh, tells three simultaneous, interwoven stories of Chinese immigrants in Vancouver. Magic realism, so involves some suspension of disbelief. RS
Nevermind. I see I can get it via paypal from the production company's site. I think I'll order me a copy.
I don't care. It can't be worse than 24 Hour Woman, Go Fish, or Night of the Wilding. I love bad movies.
I can't even believe I'm going to admit to having watched this: Having someone as good looking as Roselyn Sanchez in the movie is the only possible explanation for anyone being able to make their way through the entire thing.
Yeah... I'd take the least hot chick and be damned happy to have her. Just watched Shrek the other night, since I hadn't seen it before.
Will say this in advance, my wife is taking me to go see "The Day After Tomorrow" on Monday night, as part of her birthday present to me. The previews look pretty interesting...
Saw "Day After Tomorrow" at a matinee today - ugh. The first act, and really about half of the second, moved along nicely. But when it came time for the second plot point and, eventually, resolution, it was just coincidence-laden garbage. (The first 45 minutes, by the way, is what you'd expect from Emerlich - it's "Independence Day" with weather instead of aliens.) RS
it is what it is......stupidly funny. I have no problem saying I enjoyed it. Besides it has Brittany Daniel looking about as hot as a woman can look. The word fit comes to mind.
I was at screening of said stupid movie with pvan4. I also enjoyed it. Every now and then you need some truly stupid entertainment.
Ken Park. A quite good film actually. Very similar to Kids but much better. I can't post any of the film posters, as they would violate TOS.
Very interesting animation techniques, strange characters, but I liked it. Certainly different from anything else out there.
For anyone who ever wondered if i ever see popular movies .... well, here's mega-blockbuster Signs. A darn good entertainment. You would need a college-rule notebook to list all the influences that Shyamalan throws into the movie. But Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler the film ends in the wrong place. It should end after they decide to leave the basement. Gibson should take a few cautious steps out the door, up the stairs, and then the screen should go to black. As faith is the ability to believe and trust in the face of the unknown, that would fit better. We don't really need the reward of seeing things turn out well. It would avoid the ending, where NIght shows too much (of the alien in particular) and piles on. It would also relieve us from being placed in the awkward position of having to root for them to revive a Culkin.
Couple of old favorites: Soderbergh makes movies that are simply fun. And you know you're watching a great director when Jennifer Lopez's acting is tolerable. Cheadle, Guzman, Brooks, Clooney, Zahn, Keener, Rhames etc are all quality. Nice cameos by Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson. Hitchcock films age well for the most part, though the final act was way too drawn out. Saul Bass does some fantastic art.
Death Race 2000 Watched this (again) over the weekend as part of my on-going survey of Roger Corman movies. If you can get past the incredibly cheesy low budget effects, it's better than it has any right to be, and Simone Griffith was extremely easy to look at.
Bombay Talkie Dreadful movie that was described much better than it actually was (thanks Netflix ), of course I guess that's true of most of them. Thankfully, it had Aparna Sen, who at least provided someone pretty to look at.
