We need to figure out a way to tell these old politicians to retire. Term limits are one way, but you all are not ready to admit that. "congresswoman whose colleagues know she’s senile is going to run for reelection" The good thing is that she doesn't have a vote. Senator Warren is joining Trump in calling for the abolition of the debt ceiling, which is smart both tactically/politically AND good policy.
I kinda like her riffing here. Not really different from the gibberish Cheeto spouts about showerheads and raking forests
"It's a winner for [Trump]." Some Dems are starting to get nervous over the optics of the rioting aspects of the recent protests and believe this could manifest itself electorally.
On immigration — an issue that the president hammered on the campaign trail — Trump’s approval rating dropped five points from April, to 43 percent. His already low approval rating on the economy did not budge, remaining at 40 percent. The results show a majority of voters, 54 percent, disapprove of Trump’s handling of the issue. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/11/trump-quinnipiac-poll-immigration-00400784
The same guy telling you LA is on fire and many are dying (no deaths reported so far) is the same orange wobbling dipstick that told you that Mexico will pay for the wall and illegalz are eating your pets in Ohio.
The DEI poster is on a lot of y'all's ignored for good reason but he saved me a few seconds from posting the receipt. Ken Martin is upset at how his war against Hogg is going and thought of resigning. This guy has no concept of the meaning of "current moment" and is showing where the DNC's priorities are: protect incumbents and the Establishment at all costs and maybe well put out some tweets how fascism is bad.
This is another reason why I thought Wikler would be the right pick. He was running the Wisconsin DNC during the time of the Barnes failure, yet nothing has come out about it even though he would be in the know. And I was a post election debrief where that was a huge issue, and it was so clear that he knew something but wasn't going to say anything.
It's wild that we have ICE raiding birthday parties, soldiers and cops attacking media, protestors, and everyone in between, and Martin is spending all his political (and mental) capital to oust Hogg and not...I dunno...do anything about the above situation. Liberals really do hate the "Left" more than anything else. They'll happily watch the world burn, so long as those leftists burn first. At least Mandani is doing good in NYC post debate and AOC/Bernie bump.
Gentlemen, we have a winner. I'm sure I've mentioned before, E,P Thompson's book, 'The making of the English working class' in which he talks about the old 'Church and King mobs' that attacked radical reformers. They were often paid, including by people like WIlliam WIlberforce who was more commonly known for his anti-slavery work. So whilst he was working to end the oppression of slaves abroad, he was actively trying to continue to oppress the poor in his own country. Elements of the poor were helping him and although some wanted paying, many did it for nothing. What's interesting, though, is that stopped being the case by around the end of the 1700's and by the defeat of Napoleon in 1815 the 'church and king mobs; (paid or otherwise), became almost non-existent as political consciousness rose among the poor. Once the aristocracy could stop pretending that the nation was under threat, (from the French or anyone else), people generally realised they were just being fed a line.
Democrats are incapable of resistance. DOGE cuts pass 214-212 after late arm twisting by House GOP leaders. 4 Democrats didn’t vote and another 3 Democratic seats are vacant due to member deaths 4 Democrats didn’t vote and another 3 Democratic seats are vacant due to member deaths https://t.co/OND7NQwlkC— Jacob Rubashkin (@JacobRubashkin) June 12, 2025
The fvcked up part about the state of Democrats. After all the shit Trump pulls. Republicans overall are still more popular than Democrats. The party reputation is just toxic. An article about a Dutch historian and the concept of moral ambition. Supershort version is that too many people think “awareness” is the goal. Awareness is just the first, albeit necessary, step. https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/14/us/rutger-bregman-moral-ambition-cec
Along those lines . . . Commenting on why his lefty friends are most critical of his book . . . It can be all kinds of things. I’m currently building an organization called the School for Moral Ambition. We are building fellowships for ambitious, talented people to take on some of these very pressing global issues, whether that’s animal factory farming or tax avoidance by billionaires. But that stuff needs to be financed. So we work with groups like Patriotic Millionaires, for example — wealthy people who say, hey, tax me more. But for some on the left, it’s like, ewww, you’re working with rich people. In my book, I talk about the noble loser, those people who like to say, ‘I stood on the right side of history. We didn’t vote for Kamala (Harris), because Kamala was pro-Israel.’ Well, look what that got us. Whether we’re talking about people who are currently suffering in Palestine, animals who are suffering or people who are being oppressed — they don’t care if you’re right. They want you to win. “Moral Ambition” sounds like something you’d expect a University of Austin grifter to be calling for, or William Bennett, etc. Glad this guy came up with it first.
Proof that, whatever you think of Hogg, he is clearly wrong in the need to primary these worthless people. Let them stay in their seats until they die. It's fine! It's their turn to die in office and not actually serve in the best interest of the country. And people who can't be bothered to vote against fascism are just following their hearts so it's fine.
In soccer terms and in terms of my thinking, Jose Mourinho had a huge influence on me as a teenager. Mourinho's style was always pragmatic, and as you can see, it's served him well. It's why I always laughed at Arsenal (under Wenger) and Barca fans saying, "we play beautiful football" despite Chelsea beating them over the years. Sure, you play beautiful football, but you just lost to us and we just won another trophy. Another influence, was a short story by Stephen King called Quitters Inc. It's about a company that helps people quit smoking through rather unconventional methods. They call themselves pragmatists and when one of their clients complain about said methods, the consultant says this, That also had a huge impact on me when I read it at 14 years old. And seeing fans scream at Chelsea for having the gall to play footy that wins them games and trophies, along with a lot of the pro-Palestine people acting like they were virtuous because they were principled annoys me. Especially because of the stakes. It's why I'm also wary of people who say, "it's a matter of principle" because all that leads to is a stubborn asshole ruining things for the rest of us.
As I am in sales I'll give you a word of advice. You can never make a bad pitch to somebody looking to buy
a long read about America's 3rd-poorest county, deep in Appalachian KY from the NYTimes: My Journey Deep in the Heart of Trump Country
Gavin addressed the nation and I hate it. No passion, no reaching out to Dems, very West Wing writing and delivery. Completely missing the moment. Only calling out the Felon as The Problem and not the GQP and the ownership class. Hero worship of the military. No driving the point home where this is leading.
He is still working against the California is a liberal wasteland tag so he has to thread that needle.
Thanks for thr post. I am so sick of the people that had a choice between undercooked chicken and the raw chicken with glass cards. They chose the raw chicken and as the glass is cutting up their insides they say don't mock me or I won't make the right choice again. I hate this timeline.
He kept the focus on Trump and decided to leave the red states out of it. I haven't heard the speech. From your review he didn't focus on the magnitude of the moment and that's disappointing
