It is because the leading candidates are the worst candidates. Eric Adams always has and forever will suck. Cuomo should not have even been allowed in the primary by the dems party. Mandani has very little experience, is super young, a self-described socialist Muslim, and really has no business being mayor. If he wins, he’ll spend most of his administration figuring out how to get anything done. There are 3-4 perfectly fine “normy” candidates that just never launched for whatever reason. A bit. Both the House and Senate minority leaders represent NY, so I kind of get it. This is largely symbolic of the Old Guard vs. the New Guard. In the worst possible way. If they were good candidates, there would be little coverage. This is a NASCAR wreck.
A mayoral race in a city that’s not like the rest of the US three years away from the Presidential elections ain’t it though. What’ll be an indicator like always, is midterms.
Separately, this was very interesting. It's about 21 minutes long. Keep in mind, I'm not necessarily a fan of The Diary Of A CEO, but sometimes he has interesting stuff. Once again, Scott Galloway is involved. But so is Logan Ury, who is the Hinge Director of Relationship Science. It's a really interesting discussion. Gets into some of the stuff we have previously discussed, but also expands on some of that stuff. Dems need to look into this because, as is said early on in the clip, young men (and men in general) are going to places like Reddit looking for answers and getting red pilled. The full clip is linked in the pinned comment. It's about 2hr and 26min. I haven't taken the time to watch it (and probably won't at that duration, unless somebody convinces me I should).
That is a pretty much Fox framing here and we have to be better than that. It is pretty much the same nonsense we heard about Obama when he ran in 2008. I took some time to listen to Mamdani interviews and podcasts (and Lander too for that matter, since he endorsed Zohran). I found him well prepared, thoughtful and rational, leaps and bounds over the current clown mayor. I guess NY democratic voters who have agency as well made their choice loud and clear yesterday. PS . Same has been said about AOC a few yrs ago and I would argue today that she is one of the most formidable pols in the Democratic Party and the country at large.
Read that on a different blog and could not agree more. As I said a couple of days ago, the Democratic Party should try to learn from Mamdani’s campaign. “ Zohran Mamdani is a heck of a talent. He has charisma and is an excellent communicator. On top of that, he built an amazing organization that went from polling in the low single digits to toppling basically every New York establishment - who all opposed him. Zohran earned this big win - and Dems need to pay attention to what he represents in terms of enthusiasm and broad appeal”
It took a while for AOC to get there. I don’t think Mamdani is incapable of turning out great. Just saying it is going to take a bit of time.
I agree that it is going to be a massive challenge for him but I think he will learn quickly, specially if he surrounds himself with a great team. Hopefully, Brad Lander will join him at City Hall. He is a really good dude and very competent as well.
I approve this message! @Taniel Brad Lander speaks: "Andrew Cuomo is in the past. He is not the present or future of New York City. Good ********ing riddance"
AOC is in the exact right place for this phase of her career…she’s a legislator. If she had run for mayor and won, well, being an executive is a whole ‘nother thing.
I think it's mostly getting a lot of attention because many former and current establishment Dems endorsed a scandal-ridden sex pest. If this thing does not come down to Mamdani vs. Cuomo in the final stretch, it probably gets considerably less attention.
One of the funnier things about the Mamdani phenomenon is that he is that unicorn of a Dem candidate who polls well with (young) white men, the very thing that the Dems have been chasing like the holy grail. And the reaction has largely been, "nope, not like that!". Keep trying to find that liberal Joe Rogan instead, Dems!
He ran mostly on affordability which is YUGE in NYC, of course. Bloomberg helped make it a rich person's playground. Wants to raise corporate taxes so average people can have nicer things
That ans and Adams playing Samuel to Trump means, Staten Island will vote for Adams. Queens and Da Bronx will go Mamdani. It will be down to how much of Brooklyn and Manhattan he can win. He needs to get 40 percent in each Boro. He just might because huge swathes of NYC hates Trump. Anyone running to be a stooge to Trump.
She really has learned pretty fast, mostly because she figures out when she's making a mistake and fixes it. Her first term, she wasn't going to open an office in her district because she assumed she would be more accessible on social media, etc. After a few weeks and many complaints from her constituents, she opened an office (because she represents old people and people who aren't extremely online). That instant when she decided she was going to represent her district and not be the Congresswoman representing Twitter was really promising.
Mandami is the overwhelming favorite at this point. Adams is hated across the board and Sliwa is an absolute nut job in a city where dems voters outnumber republicans by 6/1. I don't believe Cuomo will run either. What constituency will he even be chasing at this point?
