At this point of the season (2 tough games left) I would say that we will need to flip a coin. I don't see us being able to fight our way out, we're going to need another team or two to really slip up, and we're going to HAVE to win at least one of our remaining two games, possibly both. I don't think it's looking too bright.. makes me sad, I didn't think I'd ever have to deal with relegation.
I think that New York's Addick's thoughts on relegation in his blog are spot on. I, also, had hoped that this day would never come but..... "....let's face it, for a club like Charlton, relegation was an inevitable outcome eventually. If one accepts that we probably began every season with a typical 4/1 chance of being relegated, then there was only a 21% chance that we would begin our eight consecutive Premiership season in 07/08. It was only possible to punch above our weight for so long before we risked getting knocked out." and then there's this tidbit...... ".....it need not be cause for despair. Most Charlton fans didn't begin supporting the club in the top-tier, and after all we've only spent 12 of the past 50 seasons there. Indeed, we probably ought to be surprised that the dream lasted this long, and when one considers that the upwardly-mobile likes of Bolton have been in the Championship more recently than us, I still trust our Board enough to ensure it will be just another chapter in our proud history, not the final one." Good stuff. FYI, these quotes were from the "Blackburnt" entry in the blog.
C'mon Charlton! C'mon Charlton! With 'pool in the cl final, if they can pull it off tomorrow and a fulham/wigan loss in final game there is a chance. Red Army! C'mon north, east and west stands, show the boys you're behind them!
I'm holding out the slightest shred of hope for the boys...it's just been nearly impossible to overcome the dreadful start to this season. C'mon you Addicks!
Sorry to see you guys go down - always liked Charlton, and I certainly wish we didn't have to be the team to do it. Hope you come back up soon.
Good luck next season. The whole Tevez thing has left me bitter about you lot and the rest of the league who seem to make things up about us as you go along but as someone who has suffered relegation, and was almost certain of suffering the same fate just two months ago when we were bottom I can honestly say it's nothing more than the beginning of a new era. New players, new motivations, new goals etc.
You lot? I don't recall anyone at all representing Charlton doing or saying anything regarding the Tevez contract incidents. Maybe I'm wrong?
I come in peace, and you have a pop. Scum is what you are. If you actually followed your team, you'd know your chairman is trying to sue the premier league.
You're a Hammer through and through aren't you? I believe he said "maybe I'm wrong" which would indicate a lack of certainty rather than having a pop. No one was having a pop except you. "If you followed your team" indeed. Hopefully we'll see you in the Championship next season.
You've got to admit that this smells of the Italian scandal. Most big fines are in the £100k category. The fact that this fine is for £5.5m is completely different. That tells me that West Ham bought there way out of a points reduction. Again, very similar with Italian football. Money talks. Charlton have always played fair. They speak up when they think someone, or them, have been wronged like the Stamford Beach incident. Anyway, I don't see things being changed. We're down and now possibly being part of takeover. As a shareholder, I'm gutted but prepared for next season in the Championship.
Alan Pardew talks about relegation http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/6633503.stm
