 I've been saying how we could use him and his experience all along. Few weeks ago the lot of you were saying we didn't need him, and now my oh my how feelings have changed.

What a horrible game to watch (against the fire)
As much as I thought we were awesome at the beginning of the season, we completely suck right now... even DC has looked better in some of their games I've seen.

No, 'this is not correct'. (remembering X....) At the moment we do "need" him. And I am actually praying for the team to return to the form they showed when we were all wondering if DB could break the starting line up when he was ready to come back!
    :(

At this point, the Galaxy need David Beckham circa-1999... that guy does not exist anymore.

At this point, I'll take David Beckham late 2009. I feel very confident with him taking PK's. ;)

Overall, Beckham has been more trouble than he's worth to us. He has not yet earned my love, as he apparently has earned yours. But IF he comes in and helps us this year I'll welcome and cheer him with open arms, and I won't feel too hypocritical about it, either!

We in the Riot Squad are lucky to have what we refer to as "Chalky's Razor".

I'm paraphrasing, but it goes something like: If he scores a bunch of goals for us, then it was a good move. If he doesn't, then I hate him.

I have to say, I'm tickled by the notion that Beckham is the answer to our problems. So, Donovan is exhausted physically and mentally. Omar seems to have hit some sort of weird wall. Ricketts has lost his magic. Leonardo is simply not cutting it. Our midfield is either too green (Franklin, Stephens, Bowen) or too ancient (Kirovski, Lewis, Dema). Juninho seems to have been deported or something, no one is sure.

So, Stench, my good lad. Exactly what do you expect Beckham to do for us?
Or, is it not that you expect Beckham too succeed, you simply want to sneer in the face of those who rightfully claimed that we didn't need him in the first half of this season?

I respect that, but for me I wouldn't necessarily call it "love." I just respect the man's SKILLS and what he's capable of. Let's face it, I'd much rather have Beckham in there than a few of our starting 11 (won't name names).

A bit unfair, don't you think? The biggest misconception about Becks when he first arrived is that he was going to be some Kobe Bryant-like player on the soccer pitch and score alot, when in reality he's more of a provider.

Don't think of him as such, really. Just think he can, again, contribute and add a little spark like Landon has stated.

Contribute to our offense. Let's face it: I don't wanna say Donovan NEEDS Beckham, but he could sure as hell use a teammate with his skillset on the pitch. Remember that one little season not too long ago when Landon scored a crapload of goals? ;) David contributed nicely to that (direct or indirectly).

I may be a little too optimistic for some in here, but damnit I'm just excited. Picture it. Becks comes in, relieves pressure, the leash on Landon is loosened a bit, Buddle scores a few.... can't wait. :D

I'd be inclined to agree with this, were it not posted by Mr. Stench, a "single-issue voter" who is on the payroll of either 19Ent or Beckham's PR company.

As much as I identify myself with the "Becks ruined our lives" group, I'll welcome him back. But only because I think we need something different. Things have became a bit stale, and if Beckham can open up some lanes with his passing, it could just spark a return to form for everyone. I still expect him to be very rusty though, at least for his first 2-3 games back.

We need all the help that we can get so I hope Becks hurries up and returns to the LAG.

We've stunk up the joint lately and need a shot in the arm.

Says the person who started one of the most annoyingly juvenile threads of the year.

Were I not so comatose from the flu and the Fire match and had I seen this thread early enough, feel confident it would be binned by now. But seeing as the forum has turned it into a semi-coherent conversation -- no thanks to the original post -- democracy wins.

This. I have wavered back and forth on Beckham many times over his tenure with us. I'm not a "goldenballs" fanboy by any means, and I too identify myself with the group you cite.

However, I'll never forget how he played through the ankle injury during our MLS Cup run last fall... taking pain injections before playoff games, volunteering to take the first penalty in the MLS cup final, though his ankle was throbbing and swollen. He played through severe pain and risked his England career for our team, for us. That changed alot of my feelings about him, TBH. I don't hate him, I can't root against him, especially when he wears our shirt.

That said, I think it will take him a long time to get back up to speed, and mental form. I agree with all your thoughts though- I think he can bring a freshness and upgrade eventually.
