The Tourist American cheese plus European directing smarm. A decent enough McGuffin but not too hard to figure out. Jolie just poses throughout and calls it acting while Depp bumbles and speaks like he just smoked a joint.

I've recently watched "Into the Wild" interrupted by cosmetic commercials for dynamic executives and that was rather awkward...
The Other Guys Just terrible... I might have laughed two times in the two hours I watched this. And my amusement threshold for action-comedies isn't even that high to begin with. It was as if they weren't sure if they should take the absurdity all the way through or keep a more subdued approach. So they did something in between, which then didn't work on either level.
Saw The Fighter the other night with the wife. I liked the boxing scenes, but, then again, I like boxing. Wife liked everything but the boxing scenes. I went in with high expectations, and felt a little deflated afterward. Don't get me wrong. It was good, but it wasn't Oscar worthy, which is what I was hoping for. I also watched The Last Tightrope Dancer in Armenia which was a documentary on PBS. Was done very well, but it was very depressing to watch the decline of 3 people who hold only this talent in all of Armenia. Very sad finish.
Tron: Legacy in 3D - AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW YYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAA Took the family this morning. Loved it. I know it's gotten some lukewarm reviews. But I'm not sure what people were expecting. It was absolutely enjoyable, visually stunning, and highly entertaining.
Matt Damon in The Informant!. Kind of a wild story about as schizophrenic a person as I can imagine - the true-ish story of Mark Whitacre simultaneously informing and embezzling is really something.
A Life Less Ordinary - I was disappointed... I have read that it takes 2 viewings to get into it, but I think 1 was enough for me... not into it, not a fan...
Home has been a sick house for 4 out of 5 family members lately, and [albeit late to the party] we just subscribed to Netflix and are enjoying the Instant Watch capabilty through the PS3. So, among other things specifically for the kids, Star Trek (2009) - very enjoyable, and thought so many of the characters were likeable on their own, not just based upon pre-formed opinions from the original series. They returned a lot of the fun and emotion that, in my opinion, had been sucked out of the franchise by ST:TNG, et. seq. After just one showing, even my 7 year old daughter was quoting it: "I like this ship. It's exciting!" Iron Man (2008) - succeeds on the back of a neat suit that EVERYONE would like to have, and the great charisma of Robert Downey, Jr. District 9 (2009) - I really liked this one.
I too liked Abrams' take on Trek, even though I was initially very skeptical upon hearing he was going to do the series reboot. Though I can certainly understand the real fans feeling like their favorite franchise was Abramsed. Could have been worse, you could have been Lucased...
The things that bothered me were not the SW-like tone but some of the idiotic plot developments, like the way a group of greenhorn officers got their own command of a starship. But overall I thought it was a fun ride. Though I'm obviously not a Star Trek purist. I don't even understand why DS9 is held in high regard whilst much of Voyager is disliked by real Trek fans.
4 Lions Very funny, loved it. Inception I've seen reviews saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, and others saying it sucks. For me, it was just a good movie but not really outstanding. The first half bored me to be honest, but it picked up well in the second half. Splice Saw this last night, and was pleasently surprised. There are quite a few "eewwww" moments, but was enjoyed by one and all.
Hmmm. I liked some of this flick, but I lost interest watching this. Seriously, there were some bits in this flick that made me laugh heartily, but sometimes a little uncomfy to watch. Saw this Sunday: Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett. Sigh.
That's part of the Star Warsification. Of all the best pilots on Naboo, who survives and saves the day? Of all the best pilots in the Rebellion, who survives and saves the day? If Abrams' Kirk dropped out of space high school and took up a career of smoking crystal meth, he still would have been captain of the Enterprise somehow because that was his destiny.
