The collective consensus among Revs supporters, factoring both the passion of ignorant blowhards and the wisdom of very very many sophisticated soccer supporters, the clubs key challenges were:

    --Incompetent COO
    --Incomepentent Technical Director
--Overwhelmed manager, asked to do too much with too little, much of it outside his brief, some of it outside his core competence
--Ham-handed, even deliberately clueless relations with the strongest supporters
    --Wrongly focused marketing campaigns
    --No soccer-specific stadium
--Underfunded and poorly executed player acquisition / development

So the club's response is to let the competent but overwhelmed coach go, retain the incompetent bozos, ignore the fan-relations issues, brush off the on-the-field stuff, and toss out the the same "the check is in the mail" bs about the stadium...

Help me understand why I should give this club one thin bloody dime of my all-too-precious money? And why I shouldn't be insulted by this patronizing nonsense?

    REPPED!

LLoyd Christmas and Harry Dunne have actually been rewarded for their incompetence as COO and VP of Player Personnel by handing them more responsibility. Un-fu**ing-believable!

Yes... of Lauren Holly taking over for Sunil Gulati as New England Revolution President. Unfortunately, Ms. Holly's being easier on the eyes than Mr. Gulati will be meaningless, as she'll show-up in Foxboro about as often as "Sunny" did.

Q: Mr. Kraft will you make any additional changes to the Revs' FO?

The Revs last game was Saturday. They fired the coach on Monday. You guys are still complaining. You want them to break ground on a new stadium tomorrow, and have it built next week too?

Firing the coach today was a good first step. All the other desired off-season changes will take time. Evaluate the off-season moves in March.

Is there anyway we can make this quote as a sticky so it appears in March when JDesq09 is asking us why we are still bitching

I wish we had an alternative to watch instead of this BS, it's a shame I moved to Boston and hated the Revs until I took a dive into it 2 years ago, now We're stuck with this BS or routing for teams hundreds of miles away

Yes, because my complaint has absolutely nothing to do with the timetable for change. After all, Steve Nicol - as well as Brian Bilello and Mike Burns - should have been fired, at the latest, after last season. So, the exact timetable for change had long since ceased to be my primary source of frustration.

Don't be silly. I'd have to believe that the Krafts are actually serious about building a soccer-specific stadium for the Revolution in order to have preferences about how quickly they'd go about doing so. Frankly, I've long contended that barring a municipality willing to step-up and foot-the-bill for the majority of construction costs and/or offering the Krafts a sweetheart deal (i.e., free) on land acquisition, the New England Revolution will be filling dates at Gillette Stadium for the foreseeable future.

That it was. Where it went off the rails was when a pair of incompetents - Messrs. Bilello and Burns - were handed responsibility for putting together the list of candidates to succeed Steve Nicol as the Revolution's head coach. Based on their respective piss-poor performances as Revolution COO and VP of Player Personnel, Bilello and Burns shouldn't be entrusted with selecting the toppings on pizzas ordered for a Kraft Sports Group lunch meeting.

So long as Bilello and Burns are still gainfully employed by the New England Revolution, any off-season changes and moves are for naught. "Curly" may have been shown the door, but "Moe" and "Larry" are still pulling-down paychecks with Bob Kraft's signature affixed.

Well said, and repped. I really don't think we're being unreasonable to expect Burns and Bilello to be fired. I don't think anyone on these boards honestly expects any news about an SSS. Overall I think our expectations as fans and paying customers are quite reasonable. We'll see what happens. I'm not looking forward to this offseason.

If they fired Burns and Bilello, then you guys would complain that it is taking too long to hire the new coach.

Even with the best coach, GM, etc., there's still the issue about properly scouting and acquiring new players. If they acquire the best players then the complaints turn to the gameday atmosphere.

Always something to complain about in Revsland.

    ?

There wouldn't be an issue about proper scouting and acquiring new players if we had a better coach / fo. Yeah there would be little things here and there but there can be major improvement from what we have now.

Well if we had the best coach and GM, the scouting, acquisition and thus the atmosphere problems would take care of themselves. Feel free to come back and critique us for complaining when that happens; until then, your criticism is about us hypothetically bitching in a circumstance that hasn't happened yet, which is a waste of time for everyone.

I know the Wiki I used to work for called them Trolls in Sheep's Clothing (Tisks), someone that would make edits just wrong enough that they wouldn't be seen as trolls or someone that did enough Gnome work that when they ended up trolling it was seen as an honest mistake (or the sysops would look the other way exactly because they were so helpful)

The writing on the wall has been there for some time with respect to the future of Nicol: The Krafts knew they weren't going to pick up the option year on Nicol's contract, Steve is sharp enough to know that circumstances required his removal, so the two came together and came up with a plan to part ways in a fashion that was civil, professional, albeit predictable.

In short, all parties knew it is time to move on. The problem is, Nicol comes across as a scapegoat should the Krafts not do due diligence and take stock of the entire organization from the front office to the players, starting immediately; the club can't afford to still be making changes come March.

Wait, no, Gnomes are good. They're the kind of people the work 'behind the scenes' tying up loose ends and making things run smoothly. Gnomes are good, trolls are bad...I'd suggest checking out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiFauna for all your needs

    Burns... I don't get it.

Why? He has done nothing to build this franchise. They have only regressed, wholly.

    Great post, rep'd.

You know, there's times when the term "intentionally obtuse" fits. Now is that time.
    This. So very much this.

Nicol had to go. The guy who was helping him bring in these players also had to go. He FAILED miserably at his job. And yet, not only are they keeping him on, he's in charge of the next new coach. Amazing. Rewarding stupidity ... that's the Revs way!

    1. If Jack Bell is to be believed, the Revs actually manage to make money.

    2. Bringing in Manchester United is a feather in his cap.

    3. If the Revs really are serious about a stadium (...and I think they are) then, it's Bilello's baby, and for better or worse, he'll be here until that issue is resolved one way or another. You don't change captains halfway through the voyage.

The frustration stems from the fact that the vast majority of us have watched the slow demise of the club taking place since the end of the 2005 season. A few of the posters on this board were clamoring as far back as 2006 or 2007 for changes. For some of us, myself included, it took much longer to see the writing on the wall, but we've wanted a change for quite some time. So you say it's only been since Saturday, while a few of us will say we've been waiting for months if not years for this to happen. And most of us will agree that while Nicol may have been an issue, he's not be the biggest problem.
