Big IF I suppose but if the Quakes win MLS Cup 2004, that will mean they will have won 3 out of the last 4 MLS Cups. Does that mean they are an MLS Dynasty? Will they be spoken of in the hushed and awed fashion of the DC United 1996 - 1999 Glory Years?
They'll be a dynasty, but without some international success, not necessarily hardware (tho that would help) but success, they won't be on the same level as DC.
Well, they could win the 2004 Champions Cup, but I have the feeling we'll be looking at a first round exit against Alajuelense...
Another parallel... IF they won their third cup, they and D.C. would each have won their third cup in the first year of a new head manager.
Re: Another parallel... And the previous head manager of both teams won the Cup two out of three seasons before leaving to become his country's national team coach. Cue that twilight zone music, Rod.
San Jose is already the #2 dynasty in MLS. Here is my ranking of best MLS squads: 1. DCU 1996-2000 2. Quakes 2001-present 3. Fire 1998-present 4. Galaxy 1996-2002 5. ? - maybe Tampa 1996-1998
One might also question how much international success 1996-99 DC United would have had if they had to play any international matches outside of the country.
