Oh, I'm sure there's more to what I said then you have conveinently pointed out at Arsenal's worse point of form this season...
Before the start of the season you said that Arsenal alongside Chelsea will "set the standard" in the league. And that with their "brand of football" they'd top the league in scoring. I have no idea what you were basing it on (after their pathetic offseason), but at this point, unless they make some significant acquisitions this winter, it's obvious that they are long ways from being a goal-machine. It's ok to admit that sometimes your vision of things is simply wrong
Umm... after we went through the sequence where we: Drew City, Villareal, Pool and then lost to Blackburn at that point we weren't expected to challenge for the title. Its silly to judge teams when they are at their peak or at their trough when its just a few games. I'm also almost certain DS said that prior to Arsenal selling their captain and best midfielder. He also probably didn't predict that they'd have every leftsided defender or possible candidate get injured at the same time. If you don't think that hampers a team other than at just that position you've got another thing coming.
OK, so that means you still believe that Arsenal would have the best goal-scoring record in Premiership? Now that is funny. We'll laugh together at this assessment in May. We did go through a rough stretch, but we were never 20 points behind leaders. Plus, how is it related to the Arsenal scoring the most goals in the league??? You are wrong. See, I would've had no problem whatsoever if that he said that in June or early July (Viera's transfer was announced in mid-July). But he said that right after Community Shield, which took place in mid-August, almost a month after Vieira was gone and it became clear that Arsenal had a terrible off-season.
I'll concede the timing of the comment, as u obviously know better. the reason I bought that up is that u can't judge a team based on a rough patch. Of course we weren't behind by 20 points at that point.. the season was like 6 games old by that stage. However we were 7pts back and in like 7th or something.
I think what you should say is that one shouldn't judge a team ONLY based on a rough patch. It's obviously ridiculous to think that the rough patch isn't part of the team's performance, or doesn't contribute to their season. As such, *our* rough patch was what led us to our Euro exit, as well as the horrid Boro loss which is arguably the trigger for Keano's exit. If those two aren't dramatic enough, I don't know what is. And I think it's precisely because it's mid-season now that Arsenal's position, 20 points behind the leader, is quite a big thang compared to our "7pts back and in like 7th or something" at the start of the season. During the beginning stage of the season, teams differ by a minimal amount of points because not many games have been played. As the season wears on, the point gap grows. And it's mid-season, and Arsenal is 20 points behind..
meanwhile, Arsenal at one point went 15 games unbeaten in all competitions which is better than any such streak we've had. They are also, still in Europe. You are splitting hairs... obviously if a team is playing like crap over a long period its significant - but this is really a rough patch by Arsenal. Prior to the 4 games w/ out winning streak (3 losses in a row in the prem) they'd won 6 matches in a row in all competitions scoring 16 goals, they were pretty dynamic in terms of scoring I'd say. Arsenal haven't had a great year, but it hasn't been bad.
First of all, are you stalking me or something? Why is it any time you get the chance to take a snipe at me you're the first to do so? Secondly, projecting for the rest of the season in December in Arsenal's worst form of the entire year is an entirely stupid thing to do. No team in the league is capable of going on scoring runs like Arsenal - this is proven fact - to write them off for goalscoring is quite ridiculous. They love thumping poor teams by high scores and are capable of going on such scoring runs for months. Whether they top the chart at the end of the season or not, it is not preposterous to think they will. Henry, if he stays fit always hits around 25goals and when in form they have goalscorers all over the pitch. There is no other team in the entire league that has that Thirdly, you seem to think I have a problem with being wrong, lol, anyone I've argued with on here in the past 4yrs can say a lot of things about me, but being a sore person when wrong is not one of them. You triumphantly (for no reason) stating I am wrong, in December with 5months of the season and Arsenal not even playing half their games is naive to say the least. How's about you beat your chest in May when the final tables are up like common sense would suggest?
Yeah, I am your next-door neighbor hired by your girlfriend spying on you. I don't have any problem with you, except that you never ever on this board seem to admit to be wrong under any circumstances. It's not quite as obvious as it is with nicephoras, but at times it seems as if you are being paranoid about it, as your angry post suggests. But sure, let's wait until May and see the great scoring runs by Arsenal in the second half.
When I am wrong I have no problem with it at all..You've only been here since te middle of the year, I had the majority of my arguements before then. When I am wrong I will hold my hand up like anybody else. It's not a big deal (you seem to think it is to me? Maybe you misconstrue my posting style..) The end of the season is almost 6months away...why would I say I am wrong in December. That makes no sense.
I've got to say that watching you guys go at it over our scoring is about the only positive from today. Thanks, Stud83. While you're at it, could you also get in a fight over the Vieira sale?
I knew we couldn't rely on the jelly spined tossers to get anything off Chelsea. Rules for playing Chelsea are: 1) Get stuck into them... 2) Get stuck into them some more!
The other thing to do against Chelsea is attack quickly down the wings. That's not exactly what the Arse is known for.
Although they sure tried. Looked like they'd never crossed the ball before at times. So much for Plan B...
