Petke on Mlsnet.com http://www.mlsnet.com/content/04/connolly0204.html Dont know if this has been posted yet...He was asked four short questions by Marc Connolly.. Four quick ones Questions for D.C. United defender Mike Petke Smartest advice from a coach you've ever received: "Don't cross midfield." -- Alfonso Mondelo prior to my first game ever in MLS against Chicago Fire. Best movie line to quote: Madeline: "I'm sorry, who are you again?" Fletch: "I'm Frieda's boss." Madeline: "Who's Frieda?" Fletch: "My secretary." -- from Fletch. Smartest player on your team: Santino Quaranta. Smartest player not on your team: Mark Chung.
Smartest advice from a coach you've ever received: "Don't cross midfield." -- Alfonso Mondelo prior to my first game ever in MLS against Chicago Fire. I'll have to remeber that one when the outdoor rec league starts up. What? No Nick Rimando in the Top 5 keepers? As for Zack, didn't he have an MLS connection to someone on Benefica's staff?
Not that I've ever really spoken to Santino, so if he reads this or someone here takes offense to this... but maybe when Mike heard "smartest," he was thinking "smart" in along the lines of, "Don't get smart with me!"
Re: Petke on Mlsnet.com Thank God we're not competing in the Academic Bowl or whatever that braniac contest is.
coached the metrostars back in i think 97, also dan gasper is benficas goalkeeper coach and held the same position when thornton was a metrostar
Maybe when Connolly asked "who is the smartest on your team?" Petke heard "who is the smart a** on your team?" I don't know if Dan Gaspar was a GK coach with Metros. But he did coach Thornton on the Olympic side I believe. Also, he and Querioz were the authors of the Quieroz Report for USSF (which looked at what would have to happen for the US to be a force in World Soccer). Gaspar is American and you'd figure he wouldn't have some of the anti-American bias (or at least ignorance) that some other coaches have.
