I gotta admit, I hate Alan Smith. He's always bitching at the refs and contorting his face into that God awful scowl - even when he scores (which isn't often). The guy just works my last nerve.

That being said, his work rate and commitment to defending from the foward spot is commendable. And the more I think about him in an Arsenal shirt, the less I am repulsed by the idea.

AW said he wants his fowards to defend more and Smith would absolutely do that, freeing up TH14 to do his thing. And Smith is younger and better than anything we've got now (apologies DB, JA). With TH14 drawing most of the attention, he might even be able to bang in a few.

Of course AW doesn't specify which Leeds striker he's interested in. He could be considering Viduka, "that fat Aussie tosser" (I die laughing everytime I see that). Personally I think he's be a better fit, but I think there are better options out therer.

    What do you guys think?

had a great game against chelsea. I've been thinking the same thing if he can be had for 3 or 4m, should go for IMO. If he can keep from kicking out at opponents, and jawing with the ref, he can be quite effective. I think he does these things out of frustration because his situation and his age.
He has a good shotand a heck of alot better at defending from the front than kanu and wiltord.

    Smith

I can see a swap deal being done for Smith with Pennant staying at Leeds, I can also imagine the British press having a field day the first time he gets sent off.

    Welcome Royal Arsenal...great name btw.

Smith...ahh where do I begin. Well 1st off I have never seen another human being use the F word more than him. 2nd he is talented but inconsisent and hair trigger temper!

Not a huge fan of the Aussie Umpalumpa...aka Vikuda. Not very fast..I think we are very fast club at every position and waiting for his big head to wobble across the center half line just won't do.

I think Smith's a good player. He has a temper, but that just means that he'll fit right in! He has no little skill, is good in the air, has tremendous work-rate and will get into the box as he showed when scoring against us earlier this season. Personally, I'd like to see Aliadiere given a real chance up front, if we sign Smith then there's very little chance he'll be given a chance to start consistently for years unless Smith has a nightmare.

    Oh, and Viduka's a fat tosser. :)
