There are rumors floating around to the effect that SLU will field an entry in the PDL next year to give their boys more playing time, as some other schools have apparently done. Anybody know if there's any truth to this?
I know BYU is planning on fielding a team in the PDL next year, given that they cannot field a D1 varsity squad because of lack of scholarships for men's sports. SLU appears to be a purely competitive move.
Wondering if someone can explain this pdl (assuming it's "Professional Development League"?) and college teams? Honestly have never heard of this before and don't know how it works and how much success past teams have had with it? Otherwise, SLU has a big game this weekend against SMS. It is always a well-attended game with about 4,000 + each time they play. Hopefully SLU can turn this dismal start to the season around. We're young but there is no excuse for lack luster second halfs each game.
They could still only field 6 SLU players if they do, although St. Louis would be a good area for a PDL team.
PDL stands for "Premier Developmental League" and is affiliated with the USL. It is an amateur league with ODP status, and serves as the primary opportunity for NCAA players to play throughout the summer months. Quite a few of the better players from the Saint Louis area have played in the league, including Pat Noonan (Mid Michigan), Mike Tranchilla (Memphis), Mike Ambersley (Chicago FR), Nick Pantazi (Kalamazoo) and a host of others.
