What time of year were you thinking of going? Bratislava is interesting, but there is no need to stay more then two days.

Where were you thinking of going? The High Tatras (mountains) are one of the most popular destinations in Slovakia if you enjoy hiking. I also spent some time in Levoca, which is a small city surronded by walls.

Slovakia has a lot of old castles that haven't been rebuilt (unlike the Czech Republic), which can be interesting. Not as many tourists go to Slovakia... thus it can be more enjoyable.

If you get a chance, I would go to Slovakia. Here are some useful links...

Also, if you go during the soccer season the tickets are really cheap. :D

Thanks for the info. It will probably happen this summer, with a trip to Bratislava and some day trips to the countryside.

I hear it's very cheap, which is a plus.

I know it's the other half of the former Czechoslovakia, but I just got back from Prague and it kicked ass.

200 Kroner (about $7) cover-charge strip clubs are a very good thing, and I heard some are as low as 50 Kroner...

Slovakia is very cheap, especially outside of Bratislava. Oh yeah, it can also be difficult to find accomodation in Bratislava during the summer.

Slovakia's definitely worth it, but I would turn the trip around- go to the countryside and take a daytrip to Bratislava. Actually most of the good stuff is a good bit farther east (Tatras are brilliant), so taking daytrips from Kosice and then heading to Bratislava for a day or two.

I've been to Bratislava and the Tatras Mountains. I recommend a few days there if you're in the area but I wouldn't fly half way around the world just to go to Slovakia. I would've liked to have checked out places further east such as Kosice, if I'd had the time.

There is no reason to go there unless if you want to look for hot chicks. There are lots of them in Bratislava.

When we visited Slovakia a few years ago we discovered it's a much poorer country than the Czech Republic. Levoca is a poor town and outside the square there was not a lot to see. We left after spending one day there.

Stany Smokovic is an ideal location in the High Tatras and we stayed at the Grand Hotel that dominates the town. We enjoyed our short stay there. The views were excellent. In our journey through the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary this was the best place we stayed at.
