Sweet! Thanks for your hard work, dudes.

Here's a wacky idea of something we can do until we have a name, colors, general manager, etc.

While a big shirt like the Galaxians have or a nice professionally-made banner are the best, there is a time & place for home-made banners.

We are going to have, on a good day, 25,000 empty seats in RE to cover up.

So if anyone knows anyone who sews or does crafts, maybe they could give us a heads-up on which fabric shop sells study material like canvas cheap.

Once we know what our colors will be, we can whip up a home-made "Back up" banner, suitable for road games & games played in hurricanes like the 2000 USL D3 semifinals.

The Empire Supporters CLub is having a "make your own banner day" on August 8th. Stop by the Metro forum to find out how it went, and to see if we didn;t fukc up our banners....

I've noticed that a lot of the supporter's club names don't really have a direct correlation to the team name. That being the case, I propose we start a new topic asking for suggestions for the supporter's club name. We need something excellent and unique and appropriate... Like "Casbah"... oh wait, that's taken..

I for one have had enough suggestions from around the globe about what we should do. Some of them are pretty good but too many of them are "hairbrained" . Everyone actually in the Supporters Club will have a say in the name.

Date, place, and time of the Supporters meeting TBA.

I was thinking we could make a big "Thanks Dave" or "Checketts For President" banner for the opening game. That would be a nice gesture, don't you think?

I agree with Czar... I was thinking of making some "I (heart) Dave Checketts" t-shirts but decided that most soccer fans I know, being men, would never wear a shirt with a heart on it. Dang.

Let's hear some of those name suggestions, blitzzfan.. I'm very curious. :)

I believe they call themselves the "Casbah" because the old name of the earthquakes were the Clash and the Clash a famous punk band have a song "Rock the Casbah." There is correlation.

Now might be a good time to point out that the "Pazzo" in my handle has nothing to do with the Utah - zz connection. It means "Crazy" in Italian, they used to call me "Il Gatto Pazzo" when I was over there. Usually those zz jokes bug me, but that one made me laugh for some reason, Jabinho.

Perche' mi hanno chiamato cosi'? Secondo loro io assumiglio a un gatto.

I'm sure it's not a complete list but here it is. Deals with team name, supporters name, and colors (and some religion)

I just have to remember that there are tons of people that are interested in seeing the league grow and a team grow from birth. I'm just ready for an announcement, not suggestions.

Naming a team in this day and age is tricky. Current names that I don't think would fly if they were first heard today: Browns, Knicks, White soxs, Red Sox, Packers, Expos, Nuggets, etc, and yes, the Jazz. I understand why each of these names was picked (except Knicks) but I think the level of cynicism today would kick those names to the curb pretty quick if tradition wasn't a tradition.

Exactly. I'm tired of hearing name ideas (specifically from Brian in Boston), can we just have the announcement? Hopefully it will occur this week or next. Any clues as to when it will be?

Sorry all, I tried to PM fuzzy but he wasn't accepting PMs.

To make this post a little bit related to the thread - once we get our name, we could come up with a logo and I'd be happy to be in charge of printing some T-shirts up.

Knickerbockers where descendants of Dutch settlers in NYC. And their colors(orange, white, blue) are the City's colors that also came from the Dutch settlers, who were the original white people to live here.

Knicks is just the shortened name(kinda like FedEX). Their original official name is New York Knickerbockers.

I always thought that Knickerbockers were a kind of trousers. I wasn't completely wrong, but it does come second to the definition of metrocorazon. Wow, who thought you could actually learn something from BS.

    Knick·er·bock·er ( P ) Pronunciation Key (nkr-bkr)n.
    1. a. A descendant of the Dutch settlers of New York.
....b. A native or inhabitant of New York.
    2. Full breeches gathered and banded just below the knee; knickers.
