Yeah, it's a real shame. Do all against Benfica and then continue their downward spiral to the 2nd Division.

Average, but he's constantly been playing out of position. Still adapting to the team's style of play.

    Had a good chance though.

It was a decent game, Benfica dominated the entire match for the most part. The only time Pacos de Ferreira were dangerous were on those quick counter attacks. Benfica seemed a little bit rusty, but still played well enough to win, and if it wasn't for a couple great saves from the Pacos de Ferreira goalkeeper, Benfica could have had a few more goals. It's great to have Simao back, who in my opinion was the player of the game. Everyone else played very well, especially Nelson, who played very well at leftback (wonder if Scolari watched the game? ;) ) and made a great play and took a great shot for Benfica's first goal. As for the new players, they didn't really have time to show us much. Moretto's only save came at the very end of the game, but he does seem solid in goal. Laurent Robert played about 30 minutes, he made the cross to Simao which led to a nice goal from Geovanni. It seems like he can place the ball where ever he wants with his left foot. Manduca only played a few minutes, didn't really touch the ball, except for a header that he sent over the crossbar. Also, this game had a great turn out, with over 53,000 fans at the Estadio da Luz. All in all, it was a good win by Benfica, and a great way to begin 2006.

He was out for a long time with an injury, so he is still a little bit rusty. He was average today, but even when he's average, you tell he is talented, and when in form, he is easily one of Benfica's best players. Hopefully he gets into form again soon (he was playing great before he got injured).

Thats the difference between the biggest club in Portugal and some clubs that think their big....Not even in the CL (most advanced stages)a certain team was able to bring 53k....

We play Pacos de Ferreia and bring that......You can take that to the bank...:D

If they are charging 20 dollars a game. They just made over 1 million dollars...

Even if they aren't charging 20 dollars a game, they are still making more than that.

Big crowds sell lots of T-shirts and Jerseys and scarfs, concession food, beer, and they please sponsors(which turns around to be way more money than they could make on tickets)

Not to mention, big crowds help teams win, and winning teams make the most money:)

I really hope that vieira is improving this situation for good. I still am really sceptical about him.

Yeah I forgot about all the food and jerseys and things. Damn....proboly closer to 2 million. See, how does a small city team like penafield compete with Benfica?

The only way for a small team to compete is to have extremely excellent coaches, a decent youth squad, and a stadium that is owned outright with no outstanding debts.

Just from what I can imagine from sponsorships and average attendances, Benfica probably bring in 70-90 million euros a year in revenue. I would love to see how their expenses break down.

Of course they cant compete but same goes for other countries, how can Getafe compete with Real Madrid or Empoli with Juve...But they can compete with smaller teams ,and the way to do that is not by charging 60 Euros for a game.....Chrge 10 or 5 ...Or 20 with the 2nd person for free......Thats how ,marketing ,marketing,marketing.........

If Benfica had charged 60 Euros they wouldnt had 53k on the stadium......Simple Math my friends.....Simple Math
